The RSM Classic
This will be the last week before a short break in the new season. Next week we get THE MATCH (Bryson v. Brooks) followed the Hero World Challenge which is a limited field and, frankly, not worth an article.
This week is a little tougher on the pricing and the rule for using guys in the $10K and up range is very much in play. Using Harris English at $10,100 limits you to an average of under $8K for your remaining golfers.
$10,000 and Above
- Cameron Smith ($10,300) – I like him because he’s 3 of 3 on cuts made – cuts made? Hell, he’s got 3 Top 15s. Seaside courses also usually mean wind. As an Aussie, he’s used to it.
- Scottie Scheffler ($10,900) – OK, I’m not really confident using the highest-priced guy every week. However, there isn’t much of a spread this week (only $800 to Harris English) and he’s been playing SO WELL! Two Top 5s in the last two weeks including a 4th at Mayakoba which is comparable course.
Note: I started breaking this Tier down a little further for one reason and one reason only. Everyone thinks that it is a “must have” to win a contest (or at least cash). It’s not! You really need a Top 10 from these guys (and preferably a Top 5) to validate what you have to give up as far as value on your remaining picks. Seriously, your average “per golfer” is below $8K if you start with guys in the $10K and up range.

$9,000 to $9,900
- Adam Scott ($9,000) – 4 out of 4 on cuts made. His worst finish was a T54 at Houston last week, but that tournament was a nightmare. Delays, blow-up rounds for just about everyone, and general disgust for DFS players.
- Russell Henley ($9,600) – One of the best players right now as far as current form goes. However, we got him for $8,900 last week. He was one of the few that avoided a blow-up last week (although Round 2 looked a little iffy for a while).
- Talor Gooch ($9,300) – Although I’m still liking him, I’m a little more cautious with him now since he went 65(Yes!)-74-75-72 (Uh oh!) last week. Is it a one-off or is his run ending? I think one-off, but I like Henley and Scott a little more this week.

$7,500 to $8,900
- Justin Rose ($8,800) – When I’m a little leery on pricing, I like to go back to my “comfort players”. Rosie is one of those guys and getting him below $9K when he’s made his last 6 cuts, I’m really good with it.
- Joel Dahmen ($8,500) – I don’t know why, but when he wears that one particular hat, I think Caddy Shack. Great movie! Maybe he is the “Cinderella Story” that Bill Murray was talking about as he delicately groomed the flowers at the clubhouse? (Yeah, if you haven’t watched it, you’ll have no idea what I’m talking about!) 4 of 4 in cuts in the Fall Season and a T5 in a brutal week last week. I’m in!
- Matt Kuchar ($7,900) – He was always one of my “go tos” even when he was priced in the low to mid $9K range. Kuch struggled mightily last year and, frankly, I didn’t even look at him much. Now, he’s back to making cuts and had a T22 at Mayakoba. He’s my laid-back Ian Poulter (and yes, he let me down last week). He’s averaging 10x return at this price so, more “comfort” at $900 less than Rosie.

$7,400 and Under
- Matthias Schwab ($7,400) – He’s still only missed two cuts worldwide after last week. Like last week, at this price, with potential for wind and him being a Euro Tour player, it may be worth a shot.
- Aaron Rai ($7,400) – In his last four events, he’s gone T25-T62-T15-T19. The T15 was at Mayakoba.
- LONGSHOTS: Alex Smalley ($7,100) and Andrew Putnam ($6,400)
