Travelers Championship
What a good U. S. Open! Congratulations to Bryson! Honestly, years ago, I didn’t like him. He seemed arrogant and didn’t appear to be too “fan friendly”. I’ll admit it! After seeing this guy play, interact and converse with the media/fans, I WAS WRONG! I still am not a fan of the LIV Tour, but I am now a fan of Bryson DeChambeau!
With all that behind us now, we can relax a little this week. It’s an Elevated Event with NO CUT and a course that will play much easier than Pinehurst #2. This is a week to go light and take some chances because, barring a WD, everyone gets four rounds. Rory McIlroy is an early withdrawal this week and, honestly, I can’t blame him. It was highly unlike him to collapse like that but it happens to every golfer at some point – just more often to us amateurs (and Rory lately).
On to Cromwell, CT.
Highlights: TPC River Highlands
- Par 70 – 6,835 yards
- Small Greens (some of the smallest on Tour at 5,000 sf average)
- Wide fairways that, unlike most places, get wider the further you hit it. Cue THE BOMBERS!!
- Water (in play on five holes) and plenty of bunkers (almost 70).
NOTE: All pricing is based on DraftKings
$10,000 and Above (in my order of preference)
- Ludvig Aberg ($10,200) – this is the type of place he could win and I’ll take the $1,000 – $2,300 in savings over the other guys.
- Scottie Scheffler ($12,500) – don’t worry about last week. He’ll be fine. If he isn’t, you still get 4 rounds. It will just suck if he isn’t Top 10 at this price.
- Xander Schauffele ($11,200)
$9,000 to $9,900 (Ranking all the guys in my order of preference)
- Patrick Cantlay ($9,600) – he looked good last week and his history here? T4-T13-T13-T11-T15-T15!
- Sam Burns ($9,000)
- Collin Morikawa ($9,800)
- Hideki Matsuyama ($9,200)
- Tommy Fleetwood ($9,100)
- Viktor Hovland ($9,300)
$8,000 to $8,900
- Tony Finau ($8,900)**
- Tom Kim ($8,100)
- Corey Conners ($8,400)** – Like his current form.
- Russell Henley ($8,600) – probably one of the best players right now that’s getting little to no attention because of how well Scheffler, Schauffele and Aberg are playing.
- Brian Harman ($8,300) – course history play! T2-T8-T5-MC-T8-T6! With no cut, well, you see the results!
$7,000 to $7,900
- Sepp Straka ($7,900)
- Shane Lowry ($7,800)
TOO CHEAP WITH NO CUT:
- Will Zalatoris ($7,100)
- Wyndham Clark ($7,700)
- Christiaan Bezuidenhout ($7,400)
- Billy Horschel ($7,300)
- Harris English ($7,100)
Under $7,000
- Matthieu Pavon ($6,800)** – How? I guess since he said he likes hard courses better because he’s not a “go really low” kinda guy? Maybe that’s why he’s priced like this after his play last week.
- Austin Eckroat ($6,800)
- Adam Svensson ($6,400)
- Lee Hodges ($6,400)
$6,000 & Under
- NONE
Longshot(s)
- Webb Simpson ($6,200) – This course won’t overpower him. He’s solid but lacks the length to keep up with a lot of the young guys. Bombers can thrive here but good iron players can too! Cue Webb!
