Genesis Scottish Open
Birdie-fests are so hard to predict for DFS. It’s not like you can eliminate the guy with bad Off-the-Tee numbers or Around-the-Green numbers when a course is as easy as they have been the last few weeks. I mean, ALL of these guys are good. Hayden Springer would kick all of our asses if we played him one-on-one, but who thought he had a 59 in his bag! Cameron Young with a 59 at Travelers? Maybe, but…
This week will be different. Look for winning scores around half of what they have been. Someone may hit mid-teens below par, but not half the field. This is also the prelude to The Open next week so this should be fun!
Top 65 and ties make the cut!
Highlights: The Renaissance Club
- Par 70 – 7,237 yards
- Links-style course (mounds, deep bunkers and “gorse” [tall rough])
- Fescue Greens (Closest to Bentgrass)
- As with all Scottish/British courses – Weather is the wild card!
NOTE: All pricing is based on DraftKings
$10,000 and Above (in my order of preference)
- Rory McIlroy ($11,900) – home field advantage (home region at least) and he won last year. The price however, may influence your builds if you go here.
- Xander Schauffele ($11,700) – Like Rory, playing very well right now and won here in 2022. Also, like Rory, high-priced. I list them as #1 and #2 simply because I anticipate them contending and/or winning. But, not my favorite DFS picks to start with.
- Collin Morikawa ($10,300) & Ludvig Aberg ($10,500)** – Assuming we are going with a five-figure guy, these two are where I’d start. You’re saving more that $1,000 with both of them and, frankly, can probably get them both in a lineup if you can pick the right guys at the bottom. NOTE: It’s 100% doable on FanDuel!!
$9,000 to $9,900
- Tommy Fleetwood ($9,900) – I think he has an outside shot at a Win!
- Tom Kim ($9,500) – MC at Rocket Mortgage, but was returning to form prior to that. And, he was -3. Not like he was over par. T6 and 3rd in two appearance here.
- Hideki Matsuyama ($9,400)
- Viktor Hovland ($9,700) – waiting for him to break through. Could be here…or next week!
$8,000 to $8,900
- Corey Conners ($8,900)
- Wyndham Clark ($8,100)
- Aaron Rai ($8,300) – struggled here the last two years but is currently playing lights out! He also won here in 2020 so hopefully the last two years were getting him to where he is now!
- Brian Harman ($8,600)
- I would like to say Justin Thomas ($8,800) but I don’t have the confidence level with him yet that he doesn’t blow up in a round and miss the cut. He’s playing well making 5 of his last 6 cuts with three Top 10s. But, we all know links courses just play different. Use him in a lineup if you like, but there may even be better options below.
$7,000 to $7,900
- Christiaan Bezuidenhout ($7,500)
- Max Homa ($7,700) – on a normal course, this is way too cheap for him! On links-style? It’s still too damn cheap…especially with a T12 and T16 the last two years.
- Tom McKibbin ($7,000) – DP World Tour player with six straight made cuts and four Top 10s in that same time frame.
- Ryan Fox ($7,100)
- Thomas Detry ($7,200)
- Davis Thompson ($7,900) – Win-T2-T9-T27 in last four! I just hate picking back-to-back winners not named Tiger Woods or Scottie Scheffler. Still, at this price, a win isn’t necessary to pay off value!
Under $7,000
- Matthieu Pavon ($6,900)
- Nicolai & Rasmus Hojgaard ($6,800) – the “Twins for the Win” scenario in a GPP! At this price, they will 100% help you go Rory and Xander if you like.
- Jordan L. Smith ($6,600) – watched him last week at the BMW International. He’s a great value at this price.
- Mark Hubbard ($6,500) – I don’t care! At this price and ZERO missed cuts? Do it!
- Eric Cole ($6,400)
Longshot(s)
- Denny McCarthy ($7,400) – I like his current game!
- Connor Syme ($6,000)
- Rikuya Hoshino ($6,000)
- Rickie Fowler ($6,400)
When pricing is like this, you have a lot of underpriced guys. Some who are playing well (McCarthy & Hoshino) and some who could right the ship at any minute (Fowler) and some who you just have a gut feeling about (Syme).
Ask questions on Discord if you have them. Make sure to tag me so I don’t miss it!
GOOD LUCK!!
