Milwaukee and St Louis are getting in two today with the first game featuring Miz vs Svanson.  Game 2 Milwaukee starter is TBD as of the time I am writing this up, but I am going to just default to my usual “go opposite of G1” theory in a twin-bill, especially a divisional one.   WEATHER All clear on the main slate   Zack Wheeler (DK: $10,000) He was pulled ‘early’ last start and not too happy about it.  Either he gets lit up like an Xmas tree or he goes 7 strong tonight.  Given that it’s the Reds, I think we go with the former playing out here. Payton Tolle (DK: $8700) Chicago’s legit at home with their splits as the young guys have been better at home – but Tolle’s been good as well, Should be a push and I think Schultz and him have a good SP duel tonight. WEATHER All clear, the only spot with potential rain is the Astros at Nationals.  What could possibly go wrong with a Nationals rain delay?   KEVIN GAUSMAN (DK: $9000) I feel like I have for the majority of the time become more risk-adverse when it comes to pitching for MLB DFS.  Yesterday we hit on a nice Peter Lambert, but today I want to find something clean and safe.  Gausman’s the better pick than Schlittler IMO.  The Rays stadium for them has been a good hitters park with improved lighting and Gausman’s getting Giants coming back out of Coors and into their home park. The same game could also be considered for SP2 with Landen Roupp if we just chalk up his last start as a ‘bad’ blip on the radar. SP2 OPTIONS Im not going to lie and say any of these are different from each other today.  My personal lean is on Reynaldo Lopez, but he is coming off a ceiling start. Reynaldo Lopez (Atlanta – $7100) Brandon Pfaadt (Arizona – $6800) … Yes, seriously Landen Roupp (San Francisco – $8300)     ASTROS Outside of the obvious Yordan Alvarez, you’re more likely to win if Houston scores by having Trammell, Smith, Walker than Altuve/Paredes.  Turning the lineup over vs the Nationals is not hard, and when the bullpen for the Nats gets involved you’ll just take anyone against them. There is no such thing as ‘random’ Sunday’s because every Sunday is kinda random itself.  But, this is by far one of the weirdest Sunday slates you will come across and you should take note of it.  It’s all because of obviously last night being the 4th of July fireworks everywhere at the games but also some very odd start times today. The reason? MLB and NBC are doing a Pastime Day where all games are being broadcast with no blackouts on NBC/Peacock all day long.  To do this, they are spreading out start times to be basically every :30 minutes.  Which is not the worst concept and something I think should be considered more on Sunday’s — bravo. That said, if this means I cannot get the MLB Big Inning channel with quad box then I will consider this a wasted effort on their part.  The blackout restrictions dropping is finally a good step in the right direction but I’ll believe it long term when I see it. The bottom line here is that I do think the weird start times bring some oddity – but then it’s Sunday so maybe they cancel each other out.   WEATHER White Sox at Guardians:  Should have a delay and could wind up with a PPD   The more I went through this slate, the more I just have a hard time finding a path where pitching is winning today.  The combination of the weather, the matchups, the odd start times and the fact that the MLB definitely wants to promote their game today is going to make for some long days out there.  Good luck pitchers… JOE RYAN (DK: $9900) If Ryan pitches too well he could find himself pulled in the third inning because the Yankees make a trade in game for him.  Then again, the Yanks probably think they are fine on the pitching front for now and who can blame them in the really watered down American League.  This includes their own lineup and Ryan’s velocity will handle Jasson, Volpe, Grisham and Bellinger.  Just worried about Sunday Jazz and Rice as always, otherwise this is 7+ strikeouts, so that floor is good. Happy 4th of July everyone!  MLB has us loaded up with a heavy night slate today after the spaced out early games.   WEATHER Highest spots for storm chances are CIncinnati, Kansas City and Atlanta.   BRANDON WOODRUFF (DK: $8600) Folks we have a bunch of non American pitchers going today, but you don’t get much more american than Brandon Woodruff.  We could make the same claim for Merrill Kelly but he went and spent time in Korea for a couple seasons.  Woody is a Mississippi boy, went to Miss St. and just oozes American pride.  Alright, fine, here’s some good analysis for ya. His two starts since coming off the IL (which happened after facing Arizona for 1 IP in April) has been 79 and 84.  Projecting him to get into the 90’s today is not that much of a stretch.  No injury concerns, or limits in my mind and there’s no reason to think Marte or Carroll tear him up — although Max Kepler/Arenado roping back to back doubles is probably gonna happen but hopefully after the pen is in. KYLE LEAHY (DK: $6800) The first rule of the blowout theory is that you go opposite.  The second rule….  Well, we never really defined what to do after you blowout one team and then get blown out the next day – but I do believe that means we get a nice under tonight in Wrigley Field.  The night elements help this out quite a bit.  The only problem is that I really don’t want the roller coaster Shota Imanaga and nor do I want to be trusting myself to a friendly Asian on the 4th of July – as nice as he is.   EXPECT TO PITCH FINE Chris Sale:  If you can force him in with Woodruff it’s obviously more comforting than Leahy. In honor of our great country’s 250th birthday weekend I think we should bring back ridding our country of those who are not on board with giving us the great things that we enjoy so much. I am specifically speaking about the person who put together the MLB Schedule.  Don’t even get me started on tomorrows’ game times now.  Let’s just focus on the fact that the Cubs are playing a home game today — a Friday — in July.  Great.  At 4PM???  Weak.  But, fine, we’ll let that slide. REID DETMERS (DK: $8300) Boston’s still kinda heavy on the lefty splits IMO and thus isn’t in the best spot to beat up Detmers. DYLAN CEASE (DK: $10,200) The strikeouts will be there and the park also helps him avoid blow ups hopefully.  Gotta trust picking on the Mariners at home more than rolling with Ohtani against the Padres as bad as they can be at times too.   OTHER PITCHING THOUGHTS Logan Webb stopped walking guys in June and now he has turned it around.  Shocking how that correlates well for someone that has to get by on going deep into games because he’s rarely going to just overpower hitters.  In Coors, if you walk guys, you are dead, but with how Webb has been good in the zone lately I trust him to keep it up.  That said, the price is too high for someone who has to go long in an environment where going long is hard.
