The Dongers Club – April 21st

Tonight’s main slates will both lock at 6:10 PM EST (however no games start at 6:10) but they are not the same games on the two main sites.  We have weather already knocking things down and making this a light slate much like the afternoon one was as well.

DraftKings extra game is the 7-inning game between the Pirates and the Tigers.

WEATHER

Chicago at Cleveland has already been PPD

Toronto at Boston is likely the other game that is at risk of PPD and it should be called before slate lock if it is going to be PPD.

As always we’ll monitor things in the discord chat if it’s really questionable but for the most part games that do not PPD or announce a delay before lock usually will play.

DAVID PETERSON

As of the time I am writing this I am not sure how popular Peterson will be in sub 40 degree Wrigley but I honestly don’t care.  On a slate with no 10k+ pitchers there’s limited ceiling options as you would imagine but Peterson should continue to build upon a nice start to his young career.  So far in 2021 the lefty has nearly a 30% CSW rate and has always been lights out against LH batters.  He’ll see plenty of those with the Cubs and gets a spot he should see 6+ strikeouts as well.

ZACH DAVIES

I find lots of issues with other arms on this slate and so why not just follow our golden rule on short slates which has been working most of 2021.  Stack pitchers in a game, not hitters!   Like Peterson, Davies gets the benefit of a nice park given the weather conditions and the Mets offense hasn’t exactly been scorching anyone with PPD games in Coors, PPD games back home and again cold conditions here in Wrigley.

DBACKS / REDS

Zona’s lefties are a bad spot for Tyler Mahle and the Reds continue to hit really well at home (even without Castellanos).  Too good of a ballpark to not like some HR upside here from both teams.

Love Kole Calhoun for Arizona agianst Mahle who is going to be way overowned tonight.  Arizona wins the slate so start with 2-3 Diamondbacks (lefties like Peralta/Calhoun/Escobar) to get things going tonight.

BRAVES / YANKEES

Consistent with the afternoon games we have lots of wind blowing out tonight and non more than in Yankee Stadium – heavy out to RF and right now Corey Kluber is still in that pick on em April phase, so the Braves offense gets the lean but we will never see this (bad) Yankee lineup this low owned again all season.  They have too much power in Stanton, Judge, DJ, Frazier to not pop off a multi-HR game soon.

Note:  The stacks Dashboard has this game way down on the list, but it is not factoring in the wind at all yet and that’s the main reason for me liking this game on a short slate.

RAYS / ROYALS

Sounds like Wacha and Junis are going to be chalk now that I dig into things more and well… No.   The Royals are playing terrible defensively right now and although Junis has been REALLY good this season, he’s not possessing the extreme strike-out upside he has in years past and there’s 3 lefties in the Rays lineup that had some great AB last night and should be a thorn tonight.  Meadows, Lowe and Wendle.

The Royals on the other side haven’t hit anything hard in forever, but Michael Wacha is coming off the game of his career last week and you don’t go back to the well on a veteran like that who just came off a game where he performed about 4x better than he should have.  The Soler streak starts now.

OUTFIELD – Tier 2

For three entry max contests tonight, I would want to completely differentiate each lineup from the other.

  1. Game stack Peterson / Davies with Zona core and ATL/NY — TB/KC exposure
  2. Game stack another SP game with NY + Zona/Cincy
  3. Game stack The Braves/Yankees game with “My Guys” Mahle/Junis because they have great K upside and it’s a hedge on the hitting plays.

Mahle & Junis – Both have risk that I project gets exploited in games tonight, they are both gonna be somewhat popular because their strikeout upside is better than anyone else.  They’re great hedge pitchers.
