What is The Dongers Club?

The Dongers Club is the longest-running daily MLB home run column on DailyAmbush. Every morning during the regular season we publish a fresh edition that ranks every viable hitter on the slate by their probability of hitting a home run that night, factoring in the opposing starting pitcher’s HR vulnerability, hitter platoon splits, ballpark factors, weather (especially wind direction and temperature), and recent batted-ball form. The output drives DFS roster construction, MLB home run prop bets on books like DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM and Caesars, and full-game bet selection.

The column is written for serious DFS players and MLB bettors. It’s not a generic “top 5 home run picks” list — it’s a model-driven breakdown that shows the top 10–15 plays at every salary tier, which pitchers are getting tagged with the worst HR-allowed risk, where the wind is helping or hurting, and which game environments are stacking opportunities. If you bet MLB props or play MLB DFS daily, this is meant to be your first read of the morning.

How the DCPA model works

DCPA stands for Dongers Club Pitch Algo. It’s a percentile-ranked model that scores each hitter–pitcher matchup on a 0–100 scale where 90+ is elite home run upside and 50 is neutral. Five core inputs feed the model:

  • Starting pitcher HR vulnerability — fly-ball rate, HR/9, barrel% allowed, recent meatball pitch frequency, and quality-of-contact trends over their last 5 starts.
  • Hitter power profile vs hand — ISO, barrel%, max EV and HR/FB% split by pitcher handedness, weighted toward the most recent 30 games to capture form.
  • Park factor — DCPA uses our own park HR factor table, separated by hitter handedness, because Yankee Stadium plays differently for lefty pull power than for righties and Dodger Stadium night vs day matters.
  • Weather — wind speed, wind direction relative to batter handedness, temperature, humidity, and pulled in for every outdoor game from a forecast scrape ~3 hours before first pitch.
  • Recent form — exit velocity trend, hard-hit rate trend, and a Bayesian-shrunk power estimate that doesn’t overreact to a 3-game tear.

The output is a percentile rank versus the slate. Because it’s relative, the model self-calibrates: on a thin 4-game slate, an 85th percentile DCPA score means something different than on a full 15-game slate. Each daily Dongers Club post calls out the top scores and explains the matchup logic in plain English.

Live results & backtested ROI

The Dongers Club is the public face of a much larger MLB AI system at DailyAmbush. The numbers below are walk-forward backtested results from our MLB Bet Agent, which uses the same underlying signal as DCPA to grade home run prop bets on BetMGM (the book with the deepest HR coverage):

The Architect model is our home run prop specialist — it lives behind the same data feeds as the Dongers Club column and bets exclusively on hitter HR overs at +13.10% ROI through the 2025 season. The Bayesian pitcher strikeout model returned +17.03% ROI on K props the same year. Overall the MLB Bet Agent ran +9.44% ROI across 429 bets in backtest from June through October 2025. Full results are surfaced inside the platform; the daily Dongers Club post highlights the home-run-relevant picks for free.

Using The Dongers Club for DFS

For DraftKings and FanDuel MLB DFS, the Dongers Club is most valuable as a stacking and one-off tool. Three patterns we look for daily:

  1. Stack the worst pitcher matchup. When a starter posts a DCPA-vulnerability score in the bottom 10% — high FB rate, juicy meatball frequency, bad form, hitter-friendly park — you stack 3–5 hitters from the opposing lineup. The math compounds.
  2. Salary-relief HR upside. Once a day we flag a $3,500–$4,500 hitter on DK (or equivalent on FD) with an 80+ DCPA score. These are the plays that make GPP lineups when they hit.
  3. Wind plays. If wind is blowing out at 12+ mph at Wrigley, Yankee Stadium, or Coors, the entire slate’s HR distribution shifts. DCPA bakes this in, but the daily column flags it explicitly so you can lean exposure.

Using The Dongers Club for MLB prop betting

For MLB home run props (the “to hit a home run anytime” market), payout is typically +300 to +700, which means hit rate matters less than EV. Our backtest on the Architect HR model showed BetMGM prices most efficient HR props of any major book — DraftKings and FanDuel routinely shade favorites too short on top hitters. The pattern that’s consistently profitable: take the 70–85 DCPA range on plus-money lines (+450 to +650) and skip the chalk +200 superstars whose price already reflects their power.

Frequently asked questions

Are The Dongers Club picks free?

Yes — the daily column is free to read. The full MLB Bet Agent (5-model AI bet stack with strikeout, total bases, ML, and totals picks) lives behind the DailyAmbush member platform.

What time does the Dongers Club post each day?

Mornings during the MLB regular season, typically by 11am ET. On days with early slates we publish by 9am, and we re-issue an “Early” edition if lineups or weather move significantly.

What is DCPA and why does it matter?

DCPA — the Dongers Club Pitch Algo — is our proprietary 0–100 percentile rank for home run probability in a given matchup. It blends pitcher HR vulnerability, hitter power vs hand, park, weather, and recent form. 90+ is elite, 50 is neutral. The model is the same engine driving our backtested +13.10% ROI HR prop performance.

Which sportsbook has the best MLB home run prop lines?

From our walk-forward backtest, BetMGM consistently posts the deepest HR market with the most beatable prices. DraftKings and FanDuel tend to shade chalk favorites too short. We grade against BetMGM as the primary HR book.

Does the model account for weather?

Yes. Wind speed and direction (relative to hitter handedness), temperature, and humidity are pulled in roughly 3 hours before first pitch and feed directly into DCPA. Wrigley wind-out days, Yankee Stadium heat, and Coors are all priced in.

How is The Dongers Club different from other MLB picks columns?

Most public MLB picks columns are written from gut and stat lookups. The Dongers Club is model-output: every pick is generated by DCPA and explained in the writeup. Over 1,000 editions have published since 2023 — every one timestamped, every one auditable.
