PGA Dew Sweeper: Canadian Open

RBC CANADIAN OPEN Since this isn’t DFS MLB, NBA or NFL, I don’t get much feedback from anyone so I try to look back at the picks from the article and see how they finished.  Last week looked pretty good.  I more than doubled up with my Billy Ho lineups and a lot of the […]

The Dongers Club – June 6th

Today either is going to be a really awesome slate or it will turn into just blah and that is going to be determined by the weather in that fine state of Ohio.  There are two great series starting up between the Diamondbacks/Reds and Rangers/Guardians which both have weather impacts. If they get PPD then we are down to a 4 game slate, if they don’t we have a quality 6 gamer which has zero divisional games. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER Both the games mentioned above will have RAIN coming into them in the evening.  So we have a scenario where if they start them they’re trying to get it in and play through the rain and if they decide to delay then a PPD is highly probable. The one with the most risk is in Cincinnati – a stadium which is known for managing to get games in if they want too as the stadium seems to drain well.  So this is likely to be a goner before 6pm or they’ll play it, which is good so we can plan ahead. [spacer height=”20px”] The good news is that I won’t be planning to use any pitcher in the Ohio games today, so it’s only hitters that would be impacted by that.  The bad news is that there are some gross options overall tonight so this quickly becomes a slate where we want to strongly consider leverage and ownership more than anything else. Each pitcher definitely has risk but a good portion of the risk is that they have limited ceilings. BLAKE SNELL There is never a strong time to use Blake Snell, but at home is one scenario where he can get our attention and the pitch usage for him of late has been good throwing 104 on May 24th and 98 pitches on his last start May 31st at St. Louis. The Mets come in with plenty of power in their lineup however only Pete Alonso & Eduardo Escobar offer strong splits vs LHP on the season.  So when we throw in that PETCO Park is not a bad spot to pitch in and the Mets might have a little downer after winning the last two in L.A. we can take a shot with Snell today. ROBBIE RAY Meh.  That’s how I best sum up Robbie Ray tonight.  The overall theme for me today is to not be suckered […]

Sunday Dongers Club – June 5th

Good morning, time to wake up and play some MLB DFS/Betting action on this comfortable Summer Sunday.  Continuing with the trend in 2022 FanDuel has acquired off waivers the Texas and Colorado home games from DraftKings as they’ve included them into an 11 game main slate today and DraftKings has not. The Sunday slate also once again now locks at 1:35 PM as MLB has this early 11 am game which is going to fight the trend of overs on those games because neither team is likely gonna score 5 runs in my mind. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER All games should get in today.  Warm out in Coors for those of you on FanDuel as I expect that game to finally have some offense in it once again after back to back extra inning games which were low scoring. [spacer height=”20px”] You are going to wind up paying for pitching on DraftKings today because you literally have no choice. The cheapest pitchers are Zach Plesac at $5,000, Patrick Corbin at $5,200, Dean Kremer at $5,500, Braxton Garrett at $6,200 and then Ryan Yarbrough at $6,800.  Not a lot of options honestly here as a ton of guys are in the 7k-9k range.  Heck, even Jake Junis is $8,500. KEVIN GAUSMAN I’m normally one to like the over in Blue Jays weekend games, but not today.  I think we get a quiet game after some higher scoring games to start this series and Gausman should be able to rack up strike outs off the 4-9 hitters in the Twins lineup. Yes, the Twins have HR upside (mostly Buxton who is resting today) as they’ve shown all series but Gausman is likely going to have 8 strikeouts when this game is over so he will accrue enough damage to justify him — even if the model doesn’t love him today. The model had him around 7th or so on SP and with the lineup posted he is now #1.  Hooray model automation! LUCAS GIOLITO Everything with Giolito is always about hitting his spots.  But this Tampa lineup is so cold that I think if he misses his spots slightly he can still get away with things and there is tremendous upside vs the Wander Franco-less Rays.  The only Rays projected hitters with an ISO above .150 vs Sliders are Taylor Walls and Isaac Paredes.  Neither of which should scare us off Giolito. The Dongers Club – June 4th (Afternoon)

We will have just this singular article today as this is the only slate I am putting much energy into for today.  There is a moderate night slate tonight that is four games and includes Coors Field on it on DK. Technically this is the MAIN slate for FanDuel and Afternoon slate for DraftKings.  Both sites have the same set of 9 games on them and none of the games are part of double headers today either, which is nice. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER HOU vs KC:  Kauffman Stadium could have a combination of Rain and Sewage today.  The rain is being provided by Mother Nature and the Sewage is being provided by all hitters not named Bobby Witt Jr on the Royals.  This game should play but with rain coming in as the game moves into the later innings. All other non roof games are good to go. [spacer height=”20px”] This is a very good pitching depth slate. DYLAN CEASE Cease got back on the path to his stellar season last outing and should continue that today vs the Rays.  Most of the damage on Cease this season has come from RHH and the Rays RHH do not hit RHP very well, so he is expected to continue with another 30% strike out performance. TRISTON McKENZIE McKenzie is quietly having a season which deserves way more recognition than he is getting and he is the type of pitcher that if you haven’t faced him before you likely will struggle.  His last three starts he has gone 7+ innings in each vs the Tigers, Astros and Twins and didn’t go over 100 pitches in any of them.  He does this because he gets a good amount of swings up in the zone early and puts guys away with his Slider & Curveball’s which are both 30-40% strike-out rates vs LH and RH. The Orioles are a good team for him to feast on and only Odor has a prior PA vs McKenzie.  I wouldn’t be shocked if he struck out 7 Orioles the first time through today. BETTER THAN SEX MacKenzie Gore vs Aaron Ashby. What an electric match-up between young lefties in Ole Miller Park.  Logically they both should be very electric but with other guys having some soft match-ups I prefer the three guys above but wouldn’t hate it if you used either of these kids. [spacer height=”20px”] What stands […]

The Dongers Club – June 3rd

I feel really good about this set of games that are coming up this weekend.  So let’s make it a great one as we kick off a normal 15 game Friday that has an afternoon game in Wrigley and a couple Senior Citizen games not included on the Main slates tonight. All total, 12 games for DK/FD Main slates locking at the regular 7:05 first pitch. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER Dare I say there are ZERO issues today?  That is indeed the case because one spot with rain is Texas and they built themselves a damn roof down there. [spacer height=”20px”] GERRIT COLE Early in the season the Yankees faced the Tigers, because you know, the Yankees basically faced all the shitty teams in April and got their confidence through the roof.  In that spot, Cole had one of his worst — if not his worst, — outings as a Yankee and so anyone who tries to drum up “oh he’s gonna suck vs them” is just a plain ole donkey who isn’t really paying attention. The Tigers suck right now.  They have a .231 AVG over the last 10 days and a 22% strike out rate.  Versus cole they’re rated pretty low on the upside (risk) meter today and Cole is pitching at home and in the best form of the season.  I just wasted a good 30 seconds of your day to say this. Play Gerrit Cole please. NATE EOVALDI Boston will be in Oakland tonight and while the Red Sox have a history of not hitting in Oakland, we can ignore their bats and focus on the other side of this massive park shift.  Eovaldi against the Athletics should result in lots of late swing foul balls that get caught for easy outs and 6+ strikeouts total today.  At $8k flat on DraftKings he is an ideal SP2 to pair with Cole. LOGAN GILBERT If Gilbert can match Cole tonight or come close then this pivot is worth the extra savings to lock in my top hitting options.  Gilbert is a good pitcher in an environment which plays better for SP’s with the roof closed and he’s really learned how to pitch consistently every single start this year.  Look for a strong 20+ point outing from Gilby today. [spacer height=”20px”] Other Studs who should pitch well and can be used to diversify around Cole/Eovaldi if you want:  Shane […]

The Dongers Club – June 2nd

Tonight does not bring us site synchronicity.  FanDuel has included the Reds and Nationals game which begins at 6:40 as well as the Giants and Marlins at 6:40 and I applaud that move.  If you are interested in using players from those game then look at FanDuel This is also a good time for me to remind you that if you are feeling down text HOME to 741741 for help.  I might come across as if I am kidding about wanting to watch the Nationals and Reds (I am) but it’s never a bad time for a reminder like that. DraftKings has included Game 2 of the Angels and Yankees, while FanDuel has not.  This game has rain issues, so we’ll see if it actually plays (it will). [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER Big storms could hit Camden Yards.  We are talking cats and dogs, end of days, Chris Flexen and Jordan Lyles type shit. Angels at Yankees – Scattered rain, should play. [spacer height=”20px”] ADRIAN HOUSER (DK) No reason why I won’t look at Houser again vs the Padres.  We liked him for his pitch style versus them before out in PETCO Park and I like him here again tonight back at home vs the same lineup. IAN ANDERSON (DK) Yes, there were roughtly 28.3 runs scored in Coors Field yesterday and yes Ian Anderson has not been elite this season.  He’s a ground ball guy though facing a team coming off a DH and he’ll get plenty of run support for a 6 inning, 1 ER victory. ALEX WOOD (FD) The Marlins are back in Miami and so gone are the 14 run outbursts that they had yesterday and incoming is Alex Wood to shut them down.    Wood has an incredibly high 31% strikeout DCPA against the Marlins projected lineup & I love the Giants to win tonight.  He is my #1 on FanDuel. [spacer height=”20px”] Today is a good night for those who are looking to stack teams, especially with the consecutive guys in the order mindset as there are a number of good 3 man builds out there available to us tonight.  Below is the New Stacks Dashboard ranking the teams as of ~3:30 this afternoon. Couple things this tool is good for.  First off, it shows us which teams are least likely to be who we use and thus helps with identifying pitching options for those […]

The Dongers Club – June 2nd (Early)

We do have Thursday afternoon Baseball, which believe it or not is better today on FanDuel as they saw the Yankee game and said oh boy we gotta have that one on our Early slate guys, lets not fuck this up because clearly only New York matters for DFS purposes. Of course, this is hilarious because there is also a big issue with Sports Betting in New York right now where the state is collecting on tax revenue big time based on the gambling laws that went into place and its going to ass rape the books for the first year they are live, so of course FanDuel should be collecting more people to play DFS and Bet on their book in New York so that they can fund more parades for stupid shit in NY that nobody cares about. But I digress… We have Shohei Ohtani in Yankee Stadium on a short slate.  Should end well. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER All four games play just fine unless there’s some weird bomb threat or someone takes a dump on the field and let’s hope that neither happens. [spacer height=”20px”] ALEK MANOAH As I write this I am listening to some music today and the lyrics “Please allow me to introduce myself, I’m a man of wealth and taste…”. A great song with great lyrics and I certainly don’t think that Alek Manoah is the Devil or anything but in many ways when he is on the mound he turns into a demon against batters and is going to tame the piss out of the White Sox bats after they saw softy Ryu last night. TAYLOR HEARN For those on DK today you’ll need to find a second pitcher and honestly most of the other guys are more appropriate for the Lucifer reference (Cueto, Archer, Faedo!), so take Hearn in a game where he should have a closed roof to remove any weather elements and the Rays who are not great vs LHP is a good spot. [spacer height=”20px”] TWINNING Buxton – Arraez – Polanco – Kepler – Larnach Alex Faedo is not great with hitting his spots and probably won’t last long in this league before he transitions into his future career as hitman for angry spouses who want to off their husband (or wife?). Honestly.  Look at this before picture And then look at his now picture If you see […]

The Dongers Club – June 1st

Below are the final standings for the May Contest.  It’s clear now that half of you just do not read the rules or do not care about rules… Cmon people!!! Ya’ll just think that I sit here and yada, yada, yada all the way through every day and you can ignore the rule which CLEARLY stated – no more than one player per team?  Sheesh. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER Storms in the north east which is cooling off the conditions on Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park tonight.  Both games have risk of PPD but expectation is that they’ll play to get the games in before rain/storms come through and drastically cools off the balls. [spacer height=”20px”] The Brewers are starting someone named Jason Alexander today.  I guess Art Vandelay was not available to start. GARRETT WHITLOCK This really isn’t that wild of a recommendation tonight.  The Reds offense isn’t exactly stellar and Whitlock unlike Wacha last night has a much better chance of missing their bats with his 28.7% whiff rate and 31.3% CSW% rate all together.  Look for Whitlock to mow down the Reds today. ROBBIE RAY Strike outs my friends.  Strike outs.  That’s all we are hunting here even though it is warm and those tight pants might get a little soupy for Robbie Ray he should still see a 7+ strikeout performance today. JON GRAY Well here we are again.  Going down the path of looking at Jon Gray and with the Rays best hitter (Wander Franco) banged up and their offense just not turning the corner I think we’ll go down this rabbit hole of Jon Gray at home tonight for a very modest $6,400 on DK. [spacer height=”20px”] BACK … TO THE CAMDEN Mariners Again Winker, Frazier, Julio Rodriguez Go back into the garbage pale that is the left field wall at Camden Yards and pray the Mariners to hit it the right way tonight onto Eutaw Street. SWEET HOME … TORONTO Sox and Jays Stacks The return of Luis Robert at the top of the lineup for the White Sox is one thing, but facing Hyu-Jin Ryu a LHP that has not been great this year is another.  Chicago is one of the bottom offenses statistically and has plenty of holes still without Moncada, Eloy and Tim Anderson.  But another high scoring game is likely tonight and these offenses are worthy of stacking. [spacer height=”20px”] […]

The Dongers Club – June 1st (Early)

Six games for DraftKings Early Slate today, while FanDuel has just three. The Marlins and Rockies are playing a double-header today with the make-up game from yesterday playing immediately after their first game today.  We anticipate that today’s original scheduled starting match-up between Trevor Rodgers and Antonio Senzatela will be the SP on that game. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER Light rain between the Royals and Guardians but ole mother nature wouldn’t dare rain out our YouTube over of the day would she?  Nah, it plays. Chilly in Coors. [spacer height=”20px”] JUSTIN VERLANDER My first glance look at the games themselves today gave me an instinctual feeling that Verlander would rebound with a dominant performance.  But it is warm here in Oakland and the stadium does play up for day games, but if you cannot hit the ball then you cannot score and so we’re banking on them not hitting the ball off JV who is unlikely to have two rough starts in a row. YU DARVISH The Cardinals offense has the white hot Paul Goldschmidt who has a 40% career whiff rate in 30 PA against Darvish.  Yu is gonna be happy with the results from Darvish today. DAKOTA HUDSON The Padres offense isn’t explosive right now and with the possibility of Manny Machado sitting out we have to look at the often frustrating Dakota Hudson in a game that I think will be quiet offensively on both sides.  I would prefer him over Trevor Rodgers for a cheap SP2 in chilly Coors because of Rodgers struggles vs RHB this season. [spacer height=”20px”] YOUTUBE OVERS Royals vs Guardians Whit, Benintendi / Straw, Rosario, Ramirez, Naylor We have a trend from last season and into this season where the mid week afternoon game they throw onto YouTube for free winds up being a game which goes over. Trends aside, we also have Brad Keller who is starting to struggle finally this year and a lineup that should smack him a round a good bit.  I like both sides as Konnor Pilkington aint very solid either and so we have ourselves the primary hitting spot today. ROOKIE MISTAKE More Mets JD Davis, Alonso, Canha The Nationals will be starting rookie Evan Lee, who is a lefty and hasn’t been dominant in the minor leagues or anything.  With the wind blowing out to left field, look for last nights chalk, JD Davis, to connect […]
