The Dongers Club – April 8th (Early)

Despite a quiet day overall, that was fun was it not?  Do not take any Opening Day’s for granted and I certainly enjoyed the day.  Now we get a split slate today as teams continue to have their Opening Day games so there are 5 early and then 5 late between the split slates on both FD and DK. This article obviously covers the early one and given that they are only 5 games, it’s a little more direct and to the point. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER All five games early should play and once again we have temps in the 40’s/50’s with some windy conditions.  My assumption is that all games will play. Medium Risk … Brewers at Cubs – Upper 30’s, Wind blowing in and some light rain.  I would guess they play through it without issue. [spacer height=”20px”] With only five games we are kind of backed into paying for these pitchers today, but they won’t break the bank too much on either site. AARON NOLA The Oakland Athletics have a lineup, that is for certain.  Boy is it quite the change though from what they were rolling out at times last year with Olson, Chapman, Marte and Laureano.  Three of those guys have been shipped off and the other is suspended.  So now you get the mighty Tony Kemp, Seth Brown, Jed F’n Lowrie and potentially double-catchers hitting back to back in the lineup.  Is it the worst lineup in the league?  Maybe not quite and yes this is technically a positive park shift for them, but Nola was one guy who was getting some decent work in during the Spring and his sinker is pretty heavy reverse splits which will do well vs this lineup.   My floor expectations for Nola today will be 5+ IP, 5 strikeouts and < 2 ER allowed, which we will gladly take with the choices today. BRANDON WOODRUFF Let’s get a couple thoughts out of the way real quick here.  Yes, I said the Cubs will finish third and wow the Brewers offense is potentially worse than I expected.  What does that have to do with Woodruff you ask though?  Well, despite those two factors, I don’t see the Cubs winning a ton of back to back games all season and certainly shouldn’t hit the ball around the park vs Woodruff with the wind blowing in and sub 40 degree temps.  […]

The Dongers Club – Opening Day

The sound in my head that keeps playing over and over is the beginning to the song Foreplay (Long Time) by Boston because it feels like it has been forever with the build up coming into this season, but we are finally here.   As Vin Scully once proclaimed on Opening Day, we have had all the fan fare all the fuss and feathers but it’s time, it’s time for The Dongers Club… Okay, so he said Dodger Baseball and not Dongers Club, but if you listen closely I think he just messed up obviously.  None the less I don’t know if it was because of the lockout or because I went into a sad state of depression when Sean Payton retired in January but this has felt like the longest off-season I can remember.  Sure, we are starting one week later than normal but what is one week really? I’ll answer that quickly for you.  Because one week from now we will be running at 100 mph into the season and finally getting into scenarios where pitchers are going more than 75 pitches and batters are getting their timing down. For now though, this is extended Spring Training only the Pitchers cannot come back out after being pulled the previous inning and batters will likely be more patient at the plate instead of trying to get as many hacks in as they can like a guy who hasn’t played Golf in 8 months on the driving range before a big Tournament.  (I am looking at you Bryce Harper). Today’s slate is kind of quiet.  It got reduced by 2 games with weather issues but we still do not have site synchronicity as FanDuel has the Brewers-Cubs game while DraftKings has opted for the 4PM start time instead. It’s a long season, so let’s get this show on the road. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER All games which have not yet been PPD should play.  The general summary in April as expected is cold but not too cold as we at least do not have any snow in the forecast this year.  The wind will come into play in a few spots more than anything else. Brewers at Cubs (Wrigley) Wind is blowing out, but as I mentioned in the Manifesto …. oh wait, I didn’t publish that yet. Well, had I published it, you would have heard me talking about how Wrigley […]

NHL DFS: The Slapshot – April 5th

The NHL Dashboard is your source for up to date information.  Accessible on mobile and cleaner on the Desktop this will help you build winning line-ups. As you can probably guess with 10 games there is no shortage of options today, but it really stands out as a high scoring night overall. OTTAWA VS MONTREAL […]

The Masters

An so it begins!  Rory’s quest for the Major Slam!  Tiger’s soap opera second comeback story! A player coming out of nowhere to contend for the Green Jacket!  This, without a doubt, is my favorite golf tournament to watch.  Unfortunately, my daughter is playing in a travel soccer tournament this weekend and I’ll be at […]

NHL DFS: The Slapshot – April 4th

For those who have asked or are curious I have yet to make a final decision on how to handle the NHL regular season once MLB starts.  There is a likely scenario that we will take it day by day in terms of the number of games and Slapshot or Point Shot articles but another […]
