The Dongers Club – July 8th

The story of the day is going to be weather in a couple of games.  Remnants of a tropical storm are heading up the east coast and should cause a PPD in Baltimore between the Jays and Orioles which completely shifts the dynamic of tonights slate (in a good way).   The Pirates are in New […]

The Dongers Club – July 7th

This is the strangest set of games I have seen all season long when we consider all factors involved.  It’s basically like everyone has said ah fuck it who wants to pitch today since we’re about to go into our final series before the all star break?  Vacation mode has definitely set in.   I am […]

The Dongers Club – July 7th (Early)

There are five games on DraftKings early slate and four on FanDuel.  Neither site has deGrom vs Burnes in the double header for the Brewers-Mets today because it was PPD late last night after the slates were posted.  The game difference is of course a 7 inning tilt down in Tampa as DK has the Indians/Rays early game today. The other four games on this early slate include Braves at Pirates … as the Pirates go for a sweep of the Braves White Sox at Twins … It has cooled off quite a bit here Tigers at Rangers … Hey, random question.  What the hell happened to Julio Teheran?  Dude just up and said I’m out with a “shoulder” injury this year? Reds at Royals … Sonny vs Singer No weather concerns with good wind out in Kansas City to RF — should play well for LH hitters here and good warm weather in all other games except for obviously the Tropicana Field game and the Minnesota game.   Casey Mize Mize has made his way to the tier of being considered as an SP1.  Opponents are hitting just .234 off him this season and RH batters have been unable to generate any hard contact off his secondary pitches all season.  The southern boy should pitch well down in Texas against the Rangers today and gets a nice boost if the roof closes. Kyle Gibson After a high scoring game last night this looks like a good lower scoring game in Texas today and one that on a short 5 game slate we can get away with a SP stack in.  It comes down to Gibson vs Lynn for me on DK as the second pitcher with Mize and I expect similar games from the two of them.  Gibsons home strikeout splits are significantly higher this season as well and when he gets weaker offenses he usually excels.  He’s the safer choice.   Other guy who probably fares well:  Drew Smyly     Chicago White Sox The one team I would lock in on, even in lesser hitting conditions than Monday would be the White Sox.  Michael Pineda was a know cheater as he wouldn’t even try to hide the pine tar on his neck in games and he has been absolutely horrific since the crackdown on pitchers.  I would expect a big game from Chicago today.   Other spots […]

The Dongers Club – July 6th

HA near full Tuesday slate with lots of good pitching tonight but lots of humid spots out there.   The Indians/Rays game has been PPD due to a few rain showers scaring the good folks of Tampa.   WEATHER Milwaukee at NY Mets – Some rain concerns and deGrom is pitching, so we gotta pay attention here. White Sox at Twins – Death.  Taxes.  White Sox at Twins having rain issues. Rockies at Diamondbacks – Roof Closed.  Booo. Wimps Phils at Cubs – Another warm and windy out game   Jake deGrom Rain is going to drive everything on deGrom tonight and with ~28 options at SP there are definitely some other guys we can look at to have good games, but obviously deGrom is just not human and facing a high strike-out team in the Brewers, so if the rain is all clear then he’ll deliver.  Yeah, Christian Yelich owns him but the warm weather that you might hear about today is going to fade after storms so I actually prefer deGrom in the scenario where the game starts in a delay and some folks fade him.  Delay = Play, On time = fade.  Live dangerous either way. Ian Anderson Do not be afraid, the water is warm and you should jump right back into using a Braves SP vs the Pirates tonight.  Anderson has been solid of late away from Truist Park when he is in better parks for pitching which helps keep the ball in the park for him.  His fastball and change up play well against the Pirates batters and only Ke’Bryan Hayes looks like he could do damage but in a park not friendly to RH batters it should be a 6 inning win for Anderson tonight. Jon Gray Someone has to win between the Rockies and the Diamondbacks tonight, per MLB rules at least.  Both offenses have been picked on quite a bit this season and I would much rather go after the Diamondbacks lineup with Gray than face Story/Blackman in Chase Field with Merrill Kelly.  Jon Gray has been extremely good lately as he is pitching to hopefully get traded to a contender and should deliver you 6 innings tonight with high chances of leaving with a road win. Good Pitcher Getting Overlooked Jameison Taillon Taillon is someone I would be willing to take a shot on out in Seattle tonight.  Him, Gray and […]

The Dongers Club – July 5th

They were were zero day games today is beyond me but I’ll just stick to double dongs from the Chairman since that’s what I am best at I guess.   WEATHER Warm and windy in a few spots most notably it is warm in Minnesota and a little wind and warmth out in Wrigley.   Joe Musgrove After a long east coast weekend the Padres return home to the friendly PETCO park for their pitchers.  Joe Musgrove has excelled this season at home and will be facing a banged up Nationals team down Schwarber and likely Trea Turner as well. Brandon Woodruff Woodruff would likely be 2nd in the Cy Young voting for the NL right now and that is not anything to be ashamed of.  He’s had just one rough start and that was in Coors Field and there’s literally nothing in any splits or in this match-up which one could point too as a reason to not expect another 20+ game tonight.  I also like that the Mets are coming off a double header which was a long day yesterday but because of $ I think Musgrove slightly is the edge, but we’re really splitting hairs. Max Fried The Pirates have gone ice cold which is saying alot even by their standards.  They did nothing in Coors and as expected did very little vs the Brewers over the weekend, while Fried has now had enough games off the IL to be back into a rythym and should keep the Pirates limited tonight.   Good value candidates Wily Peralta, Vladimir Gutierrez   Fade Tylor Megill … Milwaukee is gonna be pesky tonight.   White Sox Abreu, Anderson, Grandal, Moncada, Sheets It’s hot as heck in Minnesota and the Twins pitching staff gets to start things off with Barely Over the run total tonight.  This is heavily contingent upon Moncada/Grandal being in the lineup as I really don’t want to have to ride too many of the Sox average/value guys but if they do sit then Gavin Sheets likely moves back into the #2 hole and is 100% owned.  Abreu is the lock in this stack. Phils/Cubs Bryzzo … Segura/Harper Over 80 and over 10 mph wind in Wrigley, a positive combination which is even more positive with Matt Moore and Zach Davies on the hill.   The Cubs side is much better on paper here and is powered by Bryzzo […]

Sunday Dongers Club – 4th of July

I remember two years ago on the 4th of July not every team was playing and being upset about that.  So we have that going for us today as at least every time has a game, but given that it’s Sunday lets not rewards MLB for being smart or anything.  I also recall the last time that I think the 4th of July fell on a Sunday and it was a huge DFS day for me, but that was back when we had full 15 game slates on Sundays but either way lets have history repeat itself. Mets at Yankees is a double header game so only 7 innings today.   The only thing I don’t like about some of these guys is three of them are road pitchers on a holiday.  But I am not touching Gerrit Cole, sorry, I know that one could say he no doubt bounces back against the Mets, but I am not having it. Lucas Giolito It’s a bit interesting that Gio is coming off his lowest K game of the year with just 1 vs the Twins earlier this week but I don’t suspect there is a continued decline there.  Giolito is under 9k which is a bit low for someone who is always giving us 6 innings and limited damage.    Start with him and look for upside or ownership pivots elsewhere. Zack Thompson If we are going to go cheaper on pitching it has to be Thompson today.  His $6,400 price is too good to pass up as the Marlins young RHP is pitching extremely well and gets a lot of swings outside of the zone with a very strong cutter.  It’ll be tough to get past Acuna but my feeling is both he and Charlie Morton should have solid 6 inning games here so take the cheaper option who honestly has just 2 dangerous bats to worry about today. Freddy Peralta The obvious chalk is Peralta and I would project him to top 20 DK points for a good return against the Pirates.  Two things you don’t do on the 4th of July, dont blow yourself up and don’t stack Pirates.   Also considered:   Charlie Morton, Robbie Ray and yes … Blake f’n Snell   Cubs Cubs drop 10 runs today on Cincinnati.   Career HR on the 4th of July by Kris Bryant = 4, by Wilson Contreras = 3.  […]

The Dongers Club – July 3rd (Main)

Seven main slate games tonight and none have weather issues but Boston vs Oakland is a 4PM start out in Oakland.   Clayton Kershaw Kershaw has long been someone who turns it on after Memorial Day and his last 8 inning, 13 K start against the Cubs is going to draw some onto him as […]

The Dongers Club – July 3rd – Early

Seven games on the FanDuel early slate, six games on the DraftKings early slate, which is just weird.  Also weird is the fucking debauchery that was the umpires tossing Pablo Lopez last night because he hit poor Ronald Acuna Jr in the shoulder.  I don’t think we have seen a bigger baby fake “superstar” than […]

The Dongers Club – July 2nd

Welcome to Friday, July 2nd in the Dongers Club, dubbed the best Friday slate of the season and the fact that it’s coming before the 4th of July weekend to me is definitely not a coincidence.  This is the most informative article you will read about this weekends series and it’s imperative that you collect […]

The Dongers Club – July 1st

There are five new series which are starting up tonight among the 7 games as this is a sneak peak into the glory that is Friday’s slate.  The new series include Dodgers at Nationals:  Oh well this should just be Bellirific if you ask me… Brewers at Pirates:  LiPNC Astros at Indians: LiC Cardinals at […]
