The Dongers Club – Sat – April 10 (Early Notes)

Quick article for the afternoon 5 game slate which has risk of becoming a 3 game slate with 2 weather spots KC at Chicago – GAME PPD Milwaukee at St. Louis – Rain Here, but not as bad.  If it plays it’s a decent hitting spot relative to the slate.   JAKE deGROM (DK:  […]

The Dongers Club – Friday, April 9th

Happy Friday in The Dongers Club, my favorite day of the week to write an article.  While this isn’t quite the normal Friday that I am used to writing about, I cannot resist the competitive juices that are flowing through me as I write this and I anticipate this being a fantastic slate and a […]

The Dongers Club – Thu, April 8th

Another weekday early Main slate.  Soon we’ll be into a normal season.  This is a very quiet Thursday slate but it does feature Matt Harvey in Camden Yards and Coors Field one more time.   WEATHER There is some rain in Minnesota for the Twins home opener but a long enough window where it’s not that bad to allow them to get the game in without any issues. There is also some rain in Chicago for the White Sox home opener and this one looks a little more risky but likely plays.   It is worth monitoring however.   It’s a pitching slate to get creative with your pitchers on DraftKings.  FanDuel I would just take the top guy as there is good value in OF today. JOSE BERRIOS – $9,800 The reason to play Berrios isn’t because I want to double down on his dominant first start.  Yes, the match-up vs Seattle looks solid for him and yes he has talent to potentially break the slate — but that’s not an automatic thing to happen.  The reason to play Berrios is because SP2 alone is going to be hard to identify, picking two guys not named Berrios and expecting them both to top him is just stretching it too far. The next likely choices for everyone will be Corbin Burnes, Lance Lynn and Jake Arrieta.   I don’t need to tell you that Arrieta even though vs Pittsburgh is the easy chalky SP2 that we fade.   Burnes, like Berrios pitched a gem in his first start and is on the road vs a Cardinals team that has too many guys who I expect to hit him today.  So it comes down to Lynn vs the Royals and everyone will be chasing him expecting the Royals to strike-out a ton like they did vs Bieber.  I disagree. BRAD KELLER – $6,900 Think back to yesterday when Kyle Gibson came out and dominated Toronto.  We all took a beating on it but it reminded me of something early in the season with pitchers and that is we’re going to see a lot of guys who aren’t exactly new to pitching come out and bounce back after a rough first or second start.  Keller, like Gibson, is a big sinker baller who relies on that sinker working to get success and like Gibson he didn’t have it in the first outing.  Keller’s done well vs […]

The Dongers Club – Wed, April 7th

It’s a little early in the season to have a Wednesday to enter a bunch of lineups, skip all the conference calls and head to the bar is it not? Actually, no, it’s never to early to do that. 10 game MAIN slate starting at 1PM today on both sites which includes the 4PM games.  With most of starting at 1PM local times in their regions we have limited shadow issues today as well, which is really good and there are zero weather concerns so lets just skip right on past that. The issues with today’s slate would include: Your wife or SO nagging you about some Summer vacation plans or something or other that she probably mentioned two months ago. The lawn needing that first real good mowing. The bartender not being the regular and not knowing who you are..  I feel like this is higher on the issues list. Microsoft Teams See #1 Pitchers being Pitchers These games could/should have some shadows in them Mets at Phillies – 4PM local start Cards at Marlins – 4PM local start — assuming roof is open.   TREVOR BAUER – $10,200 Everyone else has some issues and Bauer is facing one of the worst offenses to start the season in the Oakland Athletics.  It really feels like Oakland is going to struggle to hit at home all year long which is typical for them in that giant ballpark.  Bauer looked like a man on a mission in his first start in Coors Field and faces a weaker lineup than Bieber does today so he gets the nod up top. AARON NOLA – $9,200 Nola hasn’t exactly been a stud ace in day games the past two seasons, his ERA Is nearly double that of what it is in night games.  His first day game start this year though was on Opening Day and wen’t extremely well against the Braves.  I would look here for a spot where he can utilize some mid inning shadows for sure to help keep him safely in play. JACK FLAHERTY ($7,800) and PABLO LOPEZ – $6,800 We head to Miami where you are looking live at a day game following a 6PM game in South Beach.  Now, I doubt the Cardinals went out too heavy last night but none the less I would lean the pitchers here in this game and consider it a decent spot […]
