For once I was able to fall asleep and wound up waking up way before I needed for my flight, so you get a bonus Sunday Dongers Club.  That said, I may not be able to make edits if there’s unexpected lineup changes. WEATHER All clear On FanDuel you definitely have more options with deGrom and Cease available from the afternoon games which are on the MAIN slate there.  For DraftKings it gets really thin.  Here’s quick thoughts on the “top” options … Seth Lugo … Lugo and Bassitt should draw attention as names that can at least be trusted to go 6 IP and find a way to end up positive, but both are likely to give up 3 ER and so I wouldn’t assume you are getting a clear path on either guy. Edward Cabrera … Just because people think Luis Gil is a good pitcher doesn’t mean he is the better one and not facing the team who has had every Miami club booked up for the last few days.  Plus, he might get the benefit of Jazz being benched today — and that should help Joey Cantillo … He draws the Twins who’s best hitters are lefties right now and going into bad splits.   Although Martin/Lewis both should have nice days. Welcome to August, home of the … Rockies, Marlins and Pirates all scoring 10+ runs!  And a bunch of late inning blown leads as new relievers go into roles they’re not prepared for.  If you are a live better, you should have done incredible last night thanks to the Rockies and Mariners following this logic. One article today for the 4PM afternoon “MAIN” slate, which thankfully has managed to miss the Pirates and Rockies in Coors. Alright, so some personal/editorial/logistics news and information here first. I am going to be out of town for about 50% of this month, or what feels like 50% of the month and when I say out of town, I am going to be out of the timezone multiple times.  In one of the instances (the end of the month) there’s no chance in hell I am doing any content at all.  For the next 8-10 days though it’s kinda 50/50 but I am heavily leaning on no content after today until around August 13th. Overall I have been working behind the scenes to turn what has always been a hobby site into more of a Platform that focuses on the Dashboards/Lineup Pages/Optimizers/Reports and enhancing and improving that entire foundation into something that is self-driving (as it kinda is already) across MLB, NFL, College, NHL, NBA and maybe if I ever get really aggressive some additional niche sports like Golf (sorry Farris!) and Tennis.  The appetite for those is stronger, but it also is easier for me to work on the behind the scenes stuff than always committing to a content/article each day and for the football sports – weekly. September usually slows down for MLB anyways and yes, College is my new favorite sport to dive into, so I’ll be eager for that when it rolls around, but as of now I am heavily leaning on really changing the NFL picks each week to be a different style content & maybe stepping away from the fall/winter sports for content beyond a cheat sheet in discord here or there. I’ve always had the vision that one day I would draw the analogy of Forrest Gump deciding one day that he didn’t feel like running anymore and thats when the content would just stop.  But to quote another movie I enjoy way too much … TL;DR … Dont assume there is an article for the next 1-2 weeks for MLB.  I’ll pop into discord, but I am going to be in a non DFS state for that period of time and shoot, the dashboard should serve you well anyways. 8/2:  Probably can do article here. 8/3:  No article 8/4:  Not likely Rest TBD…. Today brings us a decent balance of early and late, although the Early does not include Toronto at Baltimore around 12:35 PM EST.  Instead we have a six gamer with mostly mid-west games on the slate and that means some pop-up storms in both Kansas City & Chicago. WEATHER Phillies at White Sox:  This could and should be an ugly weather spot with HEAVY rain in the forecast and big time storms.  The Phils are one of the best hitting spots on the slate too, so there is some risk upside in using them for DFS purposes but zero reason to sweat either pitcher in this one. MACKENZIE GORE … A thin slate for those who want to point out that MacKenzie Gore is having a reverse 2024 in 2025 and is going backwards over the last month, but he is still the best arm going  today & while the Astros have a ton of RHH (likely 9) he is still the third highest in K% splits against that hand on this slate. RYNE NELSON … Man, it gets really bad after Gore and Peralta.  So pivoting off one of them is going to be pretty contrarian but not the worst idea in the world.  Nelson vs Paddack has the makings of two guys going 5 IP, not getting many strikeouts and also not allowing much damage.  When that scenario is presented, I want the one who has at least been with his team longer than five seconds.  Although Paddack is tempting here too. FREDDY PERALTA … Just like Logan Webb only seems to pitch in day games (ahem, he’s going at 3:45 today but that’s not on this slate), Freddy Master Peralta only seems to face the Cubs.  Familiarity is the advantage of the hitter.  So I don’t think he has some 30 point outing, but he’ll be good enough.   BRAVES | ROYALS Did you know that over the last month the Royals have a top 10 offense in most major categories?  I bet you didn’t know that.  Unfortunately they’ll be losing early with Angel Zerpa opening the game and I don’t see how he gets through clean. ROYALS:  Jonathan India is really hitting well of late, Witt is having a ncie series & even against a LHP starting, Vinnie Pasquantino $3900 is a fricken steal. MAX FRIED (DK: $10,000, FD: $9400) Yes, it has been rough for Fried for the past month or so but I am still a believer and the Rays have just 1 HR and a 25% strikeout rate against lefties in recent games.  His PC has been fine and the walks the last two games should come back down.  This is a spot they need a win and thus your ACE has to deliver.  He should… (Yes, I said that last time too, I know) PATRICK CORBIN (DK: $7700, FD: $8200) Corbin’s telling us with his performance what he is once again and we need to believe it.  Like the Rays, Anaheim is a bottom tier team against lefties once you put aside Ward and Adell. SETH LUGO (DK: $8700, FD: $9300) Nice little contract extension for Lugo which is big for the Royals short term future.  He’s the type of guy I trust in warm conditions vs Atlanta.   PHILLIES Kepler, Turner Looks like the wind will be blowing out on the south side.  Max Kepler hasn’t been having a great season but some rumors about him losing his job could spark him to do well in a stadium he always hit well in while with the Twins.  Coupled with a white hot Turner, angry Harper and obviously the White Sox shaky pen makes this my top play. DODGERS Pages, Edman In my long running dynasty league I had a buddy ask me my thoughts on Lodolo this week and I said yeah, you have to start him given how good he has been.  And then I looked closely tonight and I deeply regret giving that advice.  Too many guys on L.A. should square him up (Pages, Betts, Teoscar, Edman) and I haven’t even mentioned their “good” hitters.  If Lodolo does get hit then it would also likely be a great spot for Tito to just punt his bullpen, making this a high upside spot. ROYALS Pasquantino, Witt Another warm summer night in Kauffman & Erick Fedde is quickly back on the mound but with a new team.  Pasquantino, Witt and Garcia are really the only Royals worth looking at if Salvy is out. The MLB having their NASCAR game this Thursday they have everyone playing tonight, which gives us a 12 game MAIN slate. For the TURBO slate you are treated to the Blue Jays in Camden against Zach Eflin, the Tigers looking to win another game against the dead-man walking Diamondbacks and the LiC Rockies going into Cleveland to take on the Guardian Sports Bettors Alliance. WEATHER DODGERS at REDS:  Monitor this one THE ACES Bring out your aces tonight.  Framber is going to be the guy I push up to the top for projections, but it’s a VERY narrow difference between him, Sanchez, deGrom and even Strider if we want to push that path as well (which is not bad).  The Nationals aren’t great vs LHP & that’ll carry the weight for me today. BOS:  Anthony, Bregman, Duran, Story MIN:  Buxton, Correa, Clemens, Lewis MARINERS Both Castillo and Sears are likely to get beat up in this game.  The Seattle side draws the likely heavier ownership but not as much as they should.
