Sunday Dongers Club – July 31st

It is very fitting of FanDuel to have a Sunday slate that resembles NFL season today with a HEAVY doze of games there.  Normal sized DK slate without Coors Field on it. [spacer height=”10px”] WEATHER Phillies at Pirates — Rain mid game.  Potential delay, no PPD risk though. Diamondbacks at Braves — Potential pop up thunderstorms. All games play. [spacer height=”10px”] DYLAN CEASE Big spot for Dylan Cease today against the white hot Athletics, right?  He needs to try to prove he can go 7 innings or maybe throw over 100 pitches as well.  But more notably, Cease has not allowed an ER in his last three starts and over his last 7 he hasn’t given up more than 1 ER in any start total.  He’s pitching fantastic right now and can cement his name among the top AL Cy Young Candidates with another double digit strikeout game. JORDAN MONTGOMERY There’s a couple crafty lefties on this slate, one of them is good and the other is Jordan Montgomery.  But Jordan Montgomery for DFS is the correct play in my mind against Kansas City who outside of Whit Merrifield and Salvy (who just got back) they don’t have much consistency vs lefties and I don’t like either of them today.  Monty is coming off a tough start in Citi Field but should go through 6 today before giving up some dumb solo homer to Michael A Taylor to ruin his shutout. PABLO LOPEZ A little South Beach Sunday potentially?  Data doesn’t say that Lopez balls but he also should not get rocked which helps play into our confidence on the South Beach Theory.  Honestly I cannot find a good reason beyond “oh, its Sunday” to tell you not to play Taijuan Walker in the same game either, but we do have a good amount of pitching options so I’ll pass. [spacer height=”10px”] Other pitching thoughts. This is a very good pitching slate and some other guys like Walker, Fried, McClanahan and Nola will eat up ownership. Nola should not have any issues with Pittsburgh but rain could cause his start to get cut short and McClanahan has a team in the Guardians who obviously have low strikeout rates but I am more concerned with the Innings wall he is driving towards. I like Fried a little, not a lot, just a little. [spacer height=”10px”] The Sunday Sleeper Nobody that I […]

The Dongers Club – July 30th

Due for a big bounce back after last night’s wild ride which was about as wild as the Marlins facing the Pirates could be.  Today we have a big Saturday night slate which is great this time of year.  Two more weeks until the football people take over Saturday’s with their pre-season games and then shortly after that it’s the College and MLB double dip in September. Luis Castillo was traded late last night and that offers up a quick reminder that you’ll want to double check lineups as players could be shipped out this weekend. [spacer height=”10px”] WEATHER All games should play but with some storm potential in Atlanta [spacer height=”10px”] JOE MUSGROVE Musgrove is getting a new contract from the Padres and that’s great for him and the team.  As well as Darvish can pitch, he is their true Ace this season and they need him to pitch like it down the stretch.  The K results lately for Musgrove haven’t been anything that make him a dominant play but there are a few guys in this lineup who I believe will help that out today and I would expect over 6 strikeouts from Joe at home in PETCO without the Twins doing what I thought they would do last night. JAKE JUNIS Six of the Nine projected Cubs hitters tonight have extremely high whiff rates vs Sliders and this is one of the best sliders in all of Baseball.  Junis with a night game at home is going to be money and dominate the Cubbies today for as long as they let him go — which is hopefully 80-90 pitches and enough to put up a 17-20 score which on tonight’s DK slate is very much in play. PAUL BLACKBURN Alright folks, I am sorry I doubted the mighty Athletics facing the horrible White Sox.  Clearly they are going to come in and sweep Chicago and then whoever they face after that they get worked.  Lemme go look. We’ll deal with that next week.  For now Blackburn is our guy on the road, he’s been weird in that he’s been less likely to struggle away from the Coliseum and Comiskey this time of year plays very well for early inning unders due to the early start time (6PM local) on Saturday night’s and how the lighting is.  Yes, I have watched a lot of Baseball over the years […]

The Dongers Club – July 30th – Early Slate

Small Four game early slate write-up for these games Cleveland at Tampa Kansas City at NY Yankees Detroit at Toronto Milwaukee at Boston [spacer height=”10px”] WEATHER All four games play [spacer height=”10px”] Nestor Cortes Ross Stripling The Jays win today and the Yankees should win in a game I would take the under in.  So that’s our path to finding pitching on this early slate and it’s really not worth over thinking it in my mind.  Lauer is going to give up too much to the Red Sox as their fill in guys can hit LHP and I’m not chasing Zach Plesac, that game has sneaky over potential in it. [spacer height=”10px”] Red Sox Blue Jays Brewers These are the three teams to concentrate going heavy on with potentially a value one off from the Guardians or Rays.  Lauer giving up all the HR in Fenway Park is the mountain I will gladly die on making Boston a top stack and we love Toronto in their home Saturday afternoon games. Someone on the Jays is hitting 2 out today and with Springer banged up, my money is on Beaux or Vlad. [spacer height=”10px”] CATCHER Alejandro Kirk / Danny Jansen Christian Vazquez [spacer height=”10px”] FIRST BASE Vlad Guerrero Jr Josh Naylor [spacer height=”10px”] SECOND BASE Kolten Wong Jeter Downs [spacer height=”10px”] THIRD BASE DJ LeMahieu Bobby Dalbec [spacer height=”10px”] SHORTSTOP Beaux Bichette Xander Bogaerts [spacer height=”10px”] OUTFIELD – Mt. Rushmore JD Martinez Teoscar Hernandez Rob Refsnyder Christian Yelich [spacer height=”10px”] [spacer height=”12px”] Christian Yelich – OF – Brewers – Chairman of The Dongers Club Bo Bichette – SS – Jays Teoscar Hernandez – OF – Jays Rob Refsnyder – OF – Red Sox Kolten Wong – 2B – Brewers [spacer height=”12px”] CORE PLAYS Cortes / Stripling MIL:  Yelich BOS:  Refsnyder TOR:  Bichette [spacer height=”10px”] BETTING PLAYS Yankees/Royals UNDER 9 + Blue Jays ML Parlay Tampa Bay ML Brewers/Red Sox OVER 9.5

The High Line – XFINITY Series – Pennzoil 150 at The Brickyard – July 30, 2022

Overview Indianapolis Motor Speedway is one of the most historical venues in racing and this weekend the XFINITY Series will take on the Road Course at The Brickyard. With qualifying in the books it’s easier to gauge who we should target as the drivers will spin 62 lap on the 2.44-mile road course. Austin Cindric […]

The Dongers Club – July 29th

Time to settle in to enjoy a Friday Night MLB DFS slate with 13 games. [spacer height=”10px”] WEATHER Cardinals at Nationals – The return of Goldy and Nolan have brought some storms into the DC area, it could get ugly all day and with the Nationals history they are very likely to be a risk of PPD this game.  From a pitching standpoint, Cardinals starter Miles Mikolas is worthy of considering in a clean weather game, but not with some weather risks. Royals at Yankees – Looks like a very low rain risk Diamondbacks at Braves – Similar here, some storms could delay the start. [spacer height=”10px”] ALEK MANOAH Detroit has the second highest K% just in comparison to the split of the SP they are facing today on this slate and a really low walk rate.  Without a ton of lefty power in this lineup either Manoah gets a good spot for him to excel so long as he has his mental focus. We should know in the first two innings if he is going to ball out or be annoying tonight but the spot is very ideal for a great game. MARTIN PEREZ The rumor was that the Angels would be resting Ohtani tonight to give him a rare day off after he pitched last night.  With the lefty on the bump for Texas there’s some logic to them doing that, although it just means that Perez can likely pitch around Taylor Ward without anybody on base. Angels suck in general but the Angels really suck vs LHP. LANCE LYNN The second half of the MLB season often brings us odd winning streaks for bad teams.  Oakland has won 7 of their last 10 overall and just swept the Astros so they fit into that category and face a shitty team as well tonight in the White Sox. But Lynn is once again back to dominating RHB and being mediocre vs lefties, so that’s where we look first and with just Seth Brown grading out well for the Athletics Lynn can give us 100+ pitches tonight for a good start.  He’s pretty cheap on DK too so he is likely a chalky decision to decide upon for your SP2 and I am very comfortable with it. [spacer height=”10px”] Arizona Diamondbacks I hope everyone reading this article doesn’t make the Wrong decision at pitcher tonight.  The D’backs with all […]

The Dongers Club – July 28th

Welcome to Thursday night which brings us an 8 game slate featuring white hot Brady Singer in Yankee Stadium, Jose Urena against the Dodgers and everyone’s favorite Asians, Shohei Ohtani and Yusei Kikuchi. Wait, Yusei Kukuchi is back?  Well, I’ll be damned. [spacer height=”10px”] WEATHER I would expect all 8 games to play tonight but there is one game which is worth noting for some potential rain in and around the game. Dodgers at Rockies – Yes, the Dodgers are in Coors and facing Jose Urena. [spacer height=”10px”] ZACK WHEELER The Pirates aren’t hitting much of late which is the least shocking thing in the world when you remove Jack and Vogelbach from your roster morons.  Take the Wheeler free square and move on. ALEX WOOD Wood only got through 4 IP in his last start but was very good about getting some whiffs in that game.  He should be able to continue that with the Cubs coming in and potentially Willson Contreras being off the team or not in the lineup.  San Francisco is reeling as a team and desperately needs to win tonight to get right — which they should against the … *sigh* … Happ-less Cubs?   Get it?  So what if Happ is playing, it still fits. ———— BIG GAP ———— SPENCER HOWARD Me touting Howard twice in a row is something that I never envisioned but I am doubling down on my feeling that he’s going to pitch well down the stretch and if that is going to happen it HAS to happen vs the Angels, it just has too. [spacer height=”10px”] Blue Jays Bichette, Hernandez, Chapman If you are a LHP who cannot get strikeouts vs the Jays you are going to struggle. Phillies I really like the Phillies tonight and this is one of those ‘Pirates found a way to allow 7+ ER’ and now Josh Van Meter is coming in to mop things up in the 9th.  Thompson got blown up last start, but his overall issue is too many walks and the 3 core RHB for the Phillies should hit him well.  Look for lots of men on base with lots of rbi doubles. Unfortunately Realmuto is out, but Bohm moves up and is a consideration off my Chairman call. [spacer height=”10px”] Secondary Teams Royals vs Yanks:  Melendez/Pasquantino, Torres/Rizzo Singer is pitching great but getting deep into the game should be a challenge […]

The Dongers Club – July 27th (Main)

A short quick slate tonight brings a quick short article.  Let’s just not over think this tonight. [spacer height=”10px”] WEATHER Look for high scoring games tonight with heavy humidity everywhere.  No PPD risk. [spacer height=”10px”] KEVIN GAUSMAN When I say lets not over think this, I mean lets take Gausman to do what Berrios could not do last night.  He should not have the LHB split issues that Jose had and in fact he should do just the opposite pitching a 7 inning, 10 strikeout performance. NATE EOVALDI With Max, Castillo and even Garrett being potential chalk tonight look for Eovaldi to be < 5% owned in a game where he is coming off an Ambush from Toronto and now can get back to his normal self.  Boston wins this game today and even though Cleveland isn’t a big K team, they will still have trouble with him today. [spacer height=”10px”] Other If you wanted to get a little contrarian or cute I do not mind Adam Wainwright or Cal Quantrill for cheaper in game stacks with the SP above. [spacer height=”10px”] There are three games above all else that I would focus on for offense today and you will want to make sure you are going on a heavy stack for teams tonight, don’t be cute and try to do a Steve Renner where you go 2-2-1-1-1-1, that aint it today.   Once you settle the team for a lineup, it should take you 5 seconds to build that lineup, hit save, and then drink your beer. [spacer height=”10px”] Marlins vs Reds The Reds are going to smack Braxton Garrett around and might still lose.  Cincinnati should be smart with Castillo who is a top trade target and has no reason to pitch deep tonight.  I am banking on that, plus extreme hitter conditions and leverage here for the Marlins to do damage. Rays vs Orioles Hello Ji-Man Choi night.  Choi, Raley, Randy vs Santander, Hays and Santander.  There’s enough humidity in this game that both sides can get a boost. Both pitchers have been GOOD vs LHB this year but I really don’t think they are what we consider dominant vs LHB and so I am comfortable attacking this spot. Juiced Ball Series (Yanks/Mets) First inning homers should be on the menu again in Citi Field.  Yes, it’s warm, but for crying out loud it’s still Citi Field in […]

The Dongers Club – July 27th (Early)

A little mid week afternoon Baseball to cure the boredom that you might have, or maybe to influence you to do a little day drinking possibly?  If the idea of Janson Junk and Andrew Heaney pitching doesn’t get the blood flowing for you then I don’t know what will my friends. [spacer height=”10px”] WEATHER Extremely humid and warm in Kansas City If the roof is OPEN in Milwaukee then that game will have a good HR boost as well It’s only 95 in Coors but it feels like 35 because the White Sox are in town 80 and a day game in Dodger Stadium, nothing to see here folks, just Corbin and Heaney Warm again in Seattle It’s July, its warm, lets move on. [spacer height=”10px”] LOGAN WEBB On page three of Logan Webb’s contract it clearly states that Mr. Webb shall only pitch in day games during the 2022 season, because once again, here we go with Logan Webb in a day game.  I am really interested in game stacking the pitchers in Chase Field with Mr. Gallen below and the Diamondbacks offense is fairly easy for Webb to once again control ZAC GALLEN Equally as good as Webb and like Webb he hasn’t had much issue with the Giants roster and being at home he generally pitches a little cleaner here.  Between these two we can look for a 40 combined outing and that should be good enough today.r [spacer height=”10px”] Also “OK”:   Javier, Giolito, Keller Chicago White Sox I don’t see how Jose Abreu cannot have 2 hits off Antonio Senzatela today, other than maybe Senzatela doesn’t last that long or he just walks Abreu.  Senz is not great at keeping RHH off the bases and this is where I should just point out that we are talking about the White Sox and so who cares because they’re probably going to suck ass and get no-hit today despite being in a smash spot. Rangers @ Mariners Jon Gray gets hit today and the Rangers do not leave Seattle quietly here either.  This is again a spot I want to buy into for home runs and I would be shocked if Seager didn’t pull out a nice LvL homer today off Marco G for Texas. Milwaukee Brewers The roof will need to be open to help this out but with Hunter Renfroe on FIRE right now he is […]
