The Dongers Club – June 21st

So last night I won $100,000 and the whole lineup was of course from this very article which is the case with my lineups every day.  Pretty cool if I do say so myself and I appreciate all the congrats and kind words everyone sent. But why didn’t any of you people share a screenshot of your big wins? I know I wasn’t just that lucky with the contest selection and the build of the lineup and yes it was on FanDuel which is one SP but still…  That bummed me out to not see others cashing big last night and so tonight, I expect better because if you are reading this today after not reading yesterday then, what’s the matta with you? Tonight we have 13 games as there are two starting in the 6pm window (Rockies/Marlins and Dodgers/Reds) and we have the return of The Italian – Anthony DeSclafani – for the first time since the passing of Henry Hill. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER The heat and humidity that burned up the midwest and south is about to torment the east coast for the next few days.  That combined with second tier pitching tonight points me in the belief that we have ourselves the potential for an explosive Tuesday around the league and I don’t mean the Taco’s that I ate for lunch. From a wind perspective, Target Field and Comiskey have some big wind boosts.  With Comiskey also having 91 degree temps and a very high Dew Point along with a team who is about to get white hot in the White Sox. It is even 84 degree’s in Oakland for crying out loud. [spacer height=”20px”] This is very much a night opposite of last night where tonight I am not expecting multiple aces to ball out and so you can get away with cheaper/lessor options.  Except for one guy…. NESTOR CORTES One area where it is not going to be 90 degrees on the field is Tropicana Field and with the Rays still missing Wander Franco and now Manny Margot there’s not many worse lineups out there today in good pitching environments than this. SEAN MANAEA On a night when there are a ton of 1B out there, Christian Walker for Arizona is another one who should profile well against Manaea but he is 0-8 lifetime against him and if Manaea can control him again and Ketel […]

The Dongers Club – June 20th

If you like mid range (8 games) slates then tonight is your kind of night. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER There are no PPD risks tonight and two games with some very warm conditions but low humidity in Atlanta and Chicago (Comiskey). [spacer height=”20px”] GERRIT COLE We are back to ride on the Gerrit Cole experience, which for someone with his talent shouldn’t feel like we’re on the Carlos Martinez or Julio Teheran type experience train but given that neither of those guys play in the MLB anymore it’s a nice little throw back for some of us who actually would play those guys. Cole is coming off one of his good starts, a 6 inning, 7 strikeout performance and now draws the lowly Rays down in the Finest Costco Warehouse in Florida, that being Tropicana Field.  I believe Cole has gotten the shits out of him for a while now and will pitch the next 1-2 months very quietly before some random blow up game in late August. YU DARVISH Zona is a lefty heavy team which is good for Darvish right now.  80% of his pitches to lefties are being hit below .200 and only 1 has left the yard, which is good because they’re playing in a Park tonight and not a Yard…  Right? MAX FRIED Fried will be close to Darvish but he is also $1,400 more expensive.  We still latch onto this idea that the Giants are going to mash LHP but they’re really inconsistent this season and Fried is going to bounce back into the 20’s overall on DK tonight. KRIS BUBIC When you look at the Angels lineup against LHP they look like the Stock Market YTD.  Basically starts off good and then goes straight down hill.  So with Bubic he needs to command the zone against the top 3 guys well enough to not be forced into high leverage spots when the likes of Walsh, Stassi, Marsh, etc. come up because he’s far better off giving up a solo homer to Trout than he is walking the bases loaded and being pulled at 2-3 IP.  So don’t fear the Trout heater and take a gamble for a cheap SP2 tonight with Bubic. [spacer height=”20px”] Don’t Mind: Burnes, Fried … Yes, they’re both fine, but Cole/Darvish get the edge for me. [spacer height=”20px”] RED SOX Duran, Martinez, Bogaerts, Bradley Boston was only good for really one game […]

Fathers Day Dongers Club

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s out there, today is our special day and I hope that you have some Father’s Day traditions either with your Dad, your kids, your grandkids, or just yourself.  It doesn’t matter, just find a way to make time to appreciate yourself. I had intended to do an article for last nights short slate as well but opted to take it off.  Actually, I was at the bar, forgot about it and then one of my kids called me up and said lets go get Taco’s, so we did that.  And in this weird way I felt like it was a nice little reset and we’re going to have a fantastic DFS slate today. Then of course I saw Yusei Kikuchi was pitching and well I am just ready for the Afternoon Tilt slate already now while watching the finale of the U.S. Open. Eight game main slate on DraftKings Nine game main slate on FanDuel, which includes a Coors game that I am actually excited is on the slate. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER There are no issues today.  It’s a lot of 70 degree games with some wind but nothing that’s bad.  It’s perfect. [spacer height=”20px”] Some good pitchers going today.  Luis Severino returns to face a lineup that he should profile extremely well against given that he dominates RHB and this is entirely a RH heavy lineup.  That said, with him missing his last start due to COVID concerns and my feeling that Toronto wins today I am a little hesitant to pay the 10k+ price on Sevvy. Another high priced guy I just won’t touch is Sandy Alcantara vs a good Mets lineup on a Sunday in Citi Field. The one thing though about Sevvy and Sandy is they are easily the two guys who if they’re on are going to pitch extremely clean, but both are on the road vs good teams and I don’t see them having those clean starts, so we can pay in the mid range instead. [spacer height=”20px”] IAN ANDERSON Good luck to the Cubbies hitters today.  Outside of Ian Happ this is one of the worst line-ups in the league at making contact on Change-Ups and last I checked this game isn’t being moved to Cincinnati where Ian Happ is a hall of famer, so I have no problems using Anderson as our SP1, who is […]

The Dongers Club – June 18th (Afternoon)

The Angels and Mariners are playing a double-header today but game 1 is on the Afternoon slate for both DraftKings and FanDuel.  Yes, yes, we have Site Synchronicity today. WEATHER The story with weather is Wind and not Temperature today but Wrigley Field is on the Super Early Turbo slate so we don’t need to sweat the wind too much in these games. Tampa at Baltimore – The Wall out in left field is blowing the wind in heavily San Fran at Pittsburgh – Wind boost for LHH but there are two LHP on the mound here, so its kind of negated Milwaukee at Cincy – This one could benefit the most from wind for offense, out to right. Texas at Detroit – Out to right Miami at NY Mets – In heavily Philly at Washington – In here too [spacer height=”20px”] JUSTIN VERLANDER I don’t see how Verlander wont get through 7 innings today and that likely results in a 7 strike out performance as well.  He and Nola will both be fine which kinda makes deciding on pitching here pointless because it’s a good pitching slate but the two studs up top will get over 20 on DK and Verlander being at home should be the preferred option, although it’s very close. 7 Innings, 2 ER, 7 strikeouts for Verlander KYLE BRADISH I think Bradish should be a sub 7k pitcher but it kinda stinks that he will be easy chalk today on DraftKings against a bad Tampa offense.  Bradish is dominating LHB and should continue to do that as he has a 40% whiff rate overall on his slider & 5 of the Rays lefties have K% over 25% on RHP sliders.  With heavy winds and cool temps in Baltimore Bradish should easily hit value on both sites. 5 1/3 IP, 8 strikeouts and 1 ER allowed for Bradish in a solid outing for the young arm. ALEX WOOD Wood is boring but consistent.  He gets a lot of ground balls (51%),  but only faces roughly 21.5 batters per game.  His ceiling isnt going to blow your socks off or anything like that, but he’s consistent and is facing a lineup that isn’t doing much vs LHP right now in the Pirates. 6 IP, 5 strikeouts and 4 BB+Hits for Wood today [spacer height=”20px”] Also expect to pitch well: Aaron Nola, Patrick Sandoval, Jose Quintana [spacer height=”20px”] […]

The Dongers Club – June 17th

Welcome to Father’s Day Weekend Baseball, we kick it off with 16 games on a Friday which by now includes the Phillies, Nationals, Cubs and Braves giving us some afternoon entertainment on this warm Friday in June. The Phillies and Nationals are so excited they’re gonna play two today and will be on the DraftKings main slate tonight making it a 12 gamer there while FanDuel is an 11 gamer.  Neither site includes Senior Citizen games in Cincinnati and ……. Baltimore?  What the hell Orioles? Today is National Mascot Day, which is a great time to remind you of the Greatest Mascot of All Time, that would be of course, The Famous San Diego Chicken Other now retired Mascots who are in the Mascot Hall of Fame Include The Gorilla – Phoenix Suns Super Hugo – Charlotte Hornets Hoops – Washington Bullets [spacer height=”20px”] Among Football Mascots, they don’t get much better than Ragnar for the Vikings.  He appreciated greatness when he saw it. If you see Demon Deacon you are either about to watch a high scoring ACC game or die. And while everyone wants Horns Down, you don’t want to fuck with Bevo [spacer height=”20px”] However, specific to Active Baseball Mascots, there is of course one who stands above the rest. On the second tier, we have the up and coming Blooper.  His social media game is A+. Astro – Houston Astros – who gets props for using an ATV, running without his shirt off and of course pyro-technics… In the underrated department there is Bernie the Brewer, he has a Giant slide which is kind of cheating, but he uses it properly and the stache is A+. In the ‘Could be Better’ department there is Billy the Marlin.  Who should really start to use his head more to his advantage to entertain the women of South Beach. The Veteran that everyone forgets about — The Oriole They would be cooler if they got a Divorce – Mr and Mrs. Met Creepy but Harmless, there is Wally The Green Monster Everyone’s favorite Dad Mascots, Mr. Red And of course Friar, who got Katie Nolan to Kiss him once….  Which does not suck. We have Sluggerrr for the Royals, who most definitely doubles as a porn star on the side And then we have the what the hell is that department, featuring Screech – Nationals Baxter – the Arizona […]

The Dongers Club – June 16th

WEATHER We might have one of my favorite under talked about narratives when it comes to weather and it’s against the team whom I am most pissed at right now.  So forgive me if I have 9 Texas Ranger lineups which each have 5 Texas Rangers in them tonight as they are the visitors in Comerica Park with the Winds blowing out to LF at 14+ MPH. Nats Park will have Thunderstorms before and possibly during the game tonight. [spacer height=”20px”] Luis Severino was going to be my #1 tonight but he has been scratched due to COVID-19.  I am guessing this will turn into a bullpen game for the Yankees. With Wheeler potentially facing weather issues tonight (and not being someone I wanted to use) we now have to look at a couple spots I wasn’t thrilled with originally. TylorD Megill This isn’t one of those spots though.  I like Megill a good amount tonight. This is going to be Megill’s second start off the IL, his first only lasted 3.1 IP and 64 pitches, so do not bother with him as an SP1 on FanDuel but consider him to pitch 75-85 maybe tonight against a high strikeout Brewers lineup. Shohei Ohtani Ohtani has not ever been as good on the road and I think a lot of it has to do with how well splitters from RHP do out in Anaheim, but we ignore that here because we have limited choices AND because the Mariners lineup is just ice cold (worse than the Angels honestly). [spacer height=”20px”] RANGERS Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, Adolis Garcia, Kole Calhoun I assume the Tigers plan to let Miguel Cabrera pitch the 6th and then turn things over to Robbie Grossman or Javy Baez after that right?  Fuck those assholes and their position player pitching half the game, I hope they give up 20 runs tonight. [spacer height=”20px”] TIGERS Willi Castro, Javy Baez The wheels on the Martin Perez bus are flat and while the Tigers are near the bottom offensively they could benefit from a wind boost tonight and also should give you nice leverage on DK where Perez is likely to be popular with Severino scratched. If they do anything it’s the Willi Castro, Javy Baez and Jonathan Schoop that should do the damage. [spacer height=”20px”] Next Favorite Spots Mets (Alonso) Angels (Trout) Phillies/Nationals (Bohm or Franco) [spacer height=”20px”] Today’s BOOST+ […]

The Dongers Club – June 16th (Early)

WEATHER Each of the outdoor games has good weather and/or wind associated with them.  This includes Fenway Park which should not be overlooked today. [spacer height=”20px”] KEVIN GAUSMAN Give me the G-man against the team who he initially came up with and basically had his career growth stunted with.  Out of the four games the conditions in Toronto are probably the least dangerous for a pitcher so Gausman should be safe from major damage after a few rough starts in a row. CHAD KUHL I project Rich Hill is going to be heavy chalk vs the Athletics for $6,100 on DraftKings and I like Oakland to finally hit today, so despite knowing that he has K% upside vs their weak lineup I would rather play the pivot game with a contrarian arm in Coors as an SP2. [spacer height=”20px”] WRIGLEY The Padres will be popular after going off last night and with the wind and weather doing it’s thing again this should be the highly owned game for good reasons once again.  That Cubs bullpen is atrocious and with the way these teams are treating things I would expect some dude named Carl to come in from the Bleachers and pitch the 6th inning. OAKLAND Best leverage spot on the board is Oakland vs Hill.  Jed Lowrie on the East coast is never good but if they’re going to do anything it’s Laureano-Lowrie-Murphy COLORADO Rockies to win is my top bet on this early slate.  Look for McKenzie to make a mistake up in the zone and Cron to jack it out of the park. [spacer height=”20px”] Today’s BOOST+ Players Luke Voit, Manny Machado, Teoscar Hernandez, Matt Davidson, Sean Murphy [spacer height=”20px”] CATCHER Christian Bethancourt/Sean Murphy – Both are mid 3k range on DK and both have hit LHP well. Austin Nola [spacer height=”20px”] FIRST BASE CJ Cron Luke Voit [spacer height=”20px”] SECOND BASE Trevor Story Andres Gimenez Jed Lowrie [spacer height=”20px”] THIRD BASE Matt Davidson Patrick Wisdom [spacer height=”20px”] SHORTSTOP Ha-Seong Kim Xander Bogaerts Bo Bichette [spacer height=”20px”] OUTFIELD Ramon Laureano JD Martinez George Springer Charlie Blackmon Jurickson Profar [spacer height=”20px”] The Dongers Club Matt Davidson – 3B – Athletics – Chairman of The Dongers Club Sean Murphy – C – Athletics George Springer – OF – Blue Jays – Lead Off Homer CJ Cron – 1B – Rockies Ha Seong Kim – SS – Padres [spacer height=”20px”] BETTING […]

The Dongers Club – June 15th

WEATHER All games play tonight and we have 90+ degrees with wind out in Coors Field.   The weather in Wrigley is once again very good with 80+ degree temps and wind blowing out again. [spacer height=”20px”] [spacer height=”20px”] CORBIN BURNES (FD/DK) The best pitcher on the slate against a good team is still where we begin tonight.  After two less than dominant starts from Burnes he’ll be put to the test vs the Mets.  The reason I love Burnes tonight is that he gave up 6 walks in 44 PA in his last two starts.  That came after he allowed just 3 walks total in 99 PA over his 4 starts prior to that.  He shouldn’t continue to struggle with command and should give the Brewers a much needed 7 inning start and a win today. SHANE McCLANAHAN I am looking at another under game in Yankee Stadium today as the wind is blowing in and we have two great southpaws facing off.  Some are contending Shane is the AL Cy Young and if it’s not him there are some who want it to be Nestor Cortes and honestly who can argue with those two right now?  Shane has given up 7 HR to RHH this season so he has to actually worry more about guys like Gleyber and LeMahieu in my mind than Judge and Stanton today because he should really get plenty of K’s vs the studs in this lineup. SPENCER STRIDER Strider should get the Soto-less Nationals lineup today, a big boost for sure and for his $7.7k price just take that boost and his swing and miss stuff to the bank. JOSE BERRIOS (DK) The Orioles have not won back to back games all month and after winning last night are an easy team to bet against today.  Ride the arm of Berrios who will keep the RHB in the park tonight and should have a 23-25% strike out rate throughout the game giving him a reasonly good effort for $8.9k.  He won’t dominate anything but he should not struggle. [spacer height=”20px”] Other Pitching Nuggets Jack Flaherty is back for the Cardinals and will be limited while the white hot Goldschmidt’s get to face another good young SP in Roansy Contreras.  I am avoiding everything about this game. [spacer height=”20px”] Rockies:  Cron, Rodgers, Daza, Grichuk Start things off tonight with the higher end SP and then […]

US Open Picks

Our resident Golf Expert, Mark Farris is out for this week unfortunately but he did send in some notes and using our Projections Model we have some recommended plays for the US Open Tournament this weekend. The U.S. Open will take place at The Country Club in Brookline Mass.  Personally as a GOLFER I think any […]

The Dongers Club – June 15th (Early)

Six games early on DraftKings, which is split into TWO slates on FanDuel today boys and girls.  Because they gotta take care of those who miss lock on a weekday of course.  The six games that we have to feast on this hump day include: Marlins vs Phillies White Sox vs Tigers Astros vs Rangers Reds vs Diamondbacks Royals vs Giants Twins vs Mariners WEATHER It is very hot in the White Sox-Tigers game and all games will play without weather issues. [spacer height=”20px”] There are no pricing decisions to worry about today on DraftKings early slate for picking two guys, nor is there anyone extremely discounted.  We do have some pitchers who are going that are not likely to go deep and thus there’s the ole 4k punt play like Daniel Castano for the Marlins and Sean Hjelle for the Giants but neither of them are even worth sniffing. [spacer height=”20px”] LUIS CASTILLO This series re-match has gone the way of the pitchers but today we have two guys facing off who did not meet last week in Cincinnati.  Castillo is pitching well and has no restrictions as the Reds bullpen is very thin and so they’ll use him for 100+ pitches.  If he can keep his walks down I can see him getting through 7 innings today which should get him to 6+ strikeouts as well. He is the easy choice for me today. ZAC GALLEN The second option comes down to Gallen, Sonny Gray, and Luis H Garcia.  I envision Garcia giving up a couple home runs vs the Rangers and Sonny Gray usually only pitches 85 or so when he is healthy, so coming off the IL For his first start isn’t exactly a comforting feeling. Let’s just apply the small slate SP game stack theory in a Chase Field get away game as Gallen does have a favorable K%, SLG and Risk rating against the Reds boring offense. [spacer height=”20px”] Other Pitching Nuggets Gray and Garcia are definite no’s for me and although I can see Marco Gonzales possibly stealing a game vs the Twins I am going to err on the side of what should happen there (him getting hit by a team that hits lefties). That leaves ole Kyle Gibson in a warm day in Philadelphia as the only option against a team who loves to hit the ball down in the zone.  That’ll be […]
