Introducing the Batter FBM* metric

We all know that the Baseball has changed and after a month into the season it is time for us as the fans and fantasy world to make an adjustment on our perception.  The era from late 2016 through parts of 2021 when the Baseball was launching out of parks continually every single night are […]

Sunday Dongers Club – May 8th

Happy Mothers Day to the Mom’s and this is the 2nd of 3 Sunday “Holiday” slates, which always seem to have some weirdness to them.  Yeah, it’s not really a Holiday, but you get the idea.  Today’s weirdness is that there are quite a few double headers to make up for the rain games and also a very short Sunday slate with a good amount of west coast games that are obviously not included because they recognize we like to Tilt and then Tilt-Tilt on Sunday’s. Lets go find some more grand slams, shall we?  Thank you Soler and Margot! Oh, and yes, we have Site Synchronicity [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER All the games scheduled for the slates should play.  There is a chance of some rain in Minnesota but it should be gone by first pitch. It’s also cold still and it’s May 8th for crying out loud.  Ridiculous. [spacer height=”20px”] Advantage to about 80% of the pitchers today, but it doesn’t mean just pick anyone because there’s a few specific guys with lots of upside. GERRITT COLE Neither the Yankees or the Rangers have swung bats against live pitching since Wednesday.  That’s a long lay off for the Rangers to wait and then come out and face Cole who generally has pitched well as a Yankee at home in day games.  Texas wasn’t doing too much offensively either in their previous games before the rain outs and I would much rather have Cole at home vs them than Manoah on the road vs a pesky Cleveland team. CHARLIE MORTON My eleanor, ole Chuck.  Last year I kept stacking against him waiting for his demise and failed while this year I have trusted him only to see him fail.  Let’s try it again one more time today against a free swinging Brewers team who finally met their match in Max Fried last night and now Morton is a pitcher they have also struggled against. Command has been a little off for Morton but he seemed to show signs of getting the old arm loose around the third inning last game when he went 99 pitches and 28 batters deep vs the Mets.  Milwaukee’s got some hot bats, but they have some strike-out bats as well. I expect Morton to be among the top 3 SP on this slate. CHRIS PADDACK CP2pitches or CP3 and 0 count as he could also […]

The Dongers Club – May 7th

Last night was a disaster and it’s fair for me to admit that I just have a Kryptonite whenever it comes to slates that have lots of PPD question marks, pitchers changing or lineup scratches.  I find that I do well when there’s a lot of things going on, but I also like to know exactly what I am going into and it is what it is.  I just suck when there’s a ton of Rain or Late Scratch noise. Luckily, today isn’t an issue in that regard (so it appears). [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER The only PPD game we will likely get is Royals vs Orioles.  Good.  Screw em. [spacer height=”20px”] LOGAN WEBB Just copy and paste that write up I did from two nights ago on Logan Webb, who probably won’t finish number one in total strikeouts tonight but he will finish off the Cardinals with 7 strong innings of shutout Baseball.  This is an early evening game in San Francisco too, which only further helps the Pitchers.  Yes, even Steven Matz will pitch well in this game. MAX FRIED Max Fried vs Corbin Burnes is the marquee pitching match-up tonight but I trust Fried much like I did in his last start to pitch very well, only this time, he’s definitely gonna do it. Nah, in all seriousness though he will really shut down the hot bats of Tellez and Wong for this Brewers lineup tonight. MICHAEL LORENZEN Why is Michael Lorenzen pitching well this year?   He isn’t giving up line drives and that’s the key to pitching right now as you can get away with fly balls, butu really he has gotten hitters to chase out of the zone and should get a bad Nationals lineup to do that here tonight. [spacer height=”20px”] RAYS vs MARINERS These teams are beating each other up and I’m going to chase what has been a very productive series up in Seattle so far.  Nobody is talking about how well Manuel Margot is playing for the Rays right now and we have another Wander Franco should go 4-4 type game tonight. Wander Franco Randy Arozarena Manuel Margot For the Mariners it was horrible to see them blow that lead but awesome to see Jarred Kelenic deliver a big time 8th inning go ahead homer.  It smelled like a coming out party for him and with Suarez hot, J-Rod always primed to go […]

NHL Playoff Slapshot – May 7th

GAME THOUGHTS FLORIDA vs WASHINGTON This game is not on the MAIN 3 game DraftKings slate today, but I do expect Washington to play well on their home ice and my gut instinct is to ride the under on this game with Washington pulling out an OT victory 3-2. COLORADO vs NASHVILLE Unlike the Bruins […]

The Dongers Club – May 6th

Welcome to the Friday edition of what has been a nice week in The Dongers Club.  Tonight was a 13 game slate but it’s already dropping down to fewer games due to a ton of rain in the East which is going to continue through most of the weekend. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER Texas-NY Yankees:  Game PPD NY Mets-Philadelphia:   Game PPD Kansas City-Baltimore:   She’s gone Toronto-Cleveland:   She’s gone too ChiSox-BoSox:  Should play Everything else looks fine with the roof being open in Chase Field, closed in Seattle and TBD in Houston. [spacer height=”20px”] The largest impact that the massive amount of rain is going to cause on this slate is in the pitching department, where we once had Gerrit Cole, Max Scherzer, Kevin Gausman and Shane Bieber potentially on the slate and then what was a deep pitching slate becomes a very mediocre one. LOGAN GILBERT In his second year Gilbert is taking the next step which the Mariners had hoped for to potentially being their future #1.  Through his first five starts he has gone 5+ IP in each start, allowed a total of 2 ER and has posted DK Scores 20 or greater each outing.  Including on April 26th when he went into Tampa and struck out 7 Rays with 3 walks on 104 pitches. He has gone 100+ in the Pitch Count department in his last two, so there is some increased risk coming as he carries a higher workload than ever before in his big league career, but for tonight I don’t see any major holes and his slider should get 6+ strikeouts out of this Rays lineup. SANDY ALCANTARA While Yu Darvish will be the chalky SP in this game, I see no reason to pay 9.4k for Darvish when Sandy at 7.7k is going to come very close to not only matching him but if the Marlins can steal a win for Sandy then he can beat our Yu. This is a great example of remembering how everyone viewed a player during the off-season and specifically with a pitcher jumping on them after a start which didn’t go as planned.  San Diego is a good team yes, but does not hit as well at home and we should have ourselves a fun little 2-1 pitchers duel tonight. YU DARVISH The rain in other spots is going to bring Darvish into the “fine, just take him” […]

NBA DFS DROPPIN DIMES(Playoff Edition)-Friday, May 6th

The second round of the playoffs continue tonight with two games. Phoenix heads to Dallas and lead the series 2-0 and Miami heads to Philadelphia and leads the series 2-0 as well. This is pretty much a must win for both home teams tonight as they do not want to go down 0-3 in the […]

NHL Playoff Slapshot – May 6th

GAME THOUGHTS CAROLINA vs BOSTON I stand by my pick that Carolina represents the East in the Cup and they cruise through Boston but tonight could  be that one game they lose and so Bergeron-Marchand-Pastrnak really stands out as a top play.  I expect this game to go over. Boston wins 4-2 TORONTO vs TAMPA […]
