It’s July, why are we starting games at 6:40 PM still.  I just want to state that as a Baseball fan there was something special about the full slate of games last night and when we get that 15 game slate again at some point in the future (hopefully) it’s going to feel so natural again. Alas, we have a 13 game slate tonight without the Twins/Guardians and Dodgers/Phillies   WEATHER Those of us on the East Coast are being primed to some severe weather threats here all day today, so I am eager to see just how much of a beating we actually get and then later tonight it should move up to Boston and New York making those two spots at risk today Pirates at Yankees:  I doubt they play Orioles at Red Sox:  If this PPD tonight then Boston’s streak ends.  If not, they win again. Nationals at Rockies:  Likely in game delay   Noah Schultz (DK: $6900) Yes, he is my number one tonight.  I know a dominant outing on a team who is gives up now when I see it (or so I say well before the slate locks).  Teams have avoided rolling lefties against Schultz, but with Joc and Nimmo being the main hitters for Texas right now as they probably wanna be traded I don’t see them sitting.  Advantage massively to Schultz.  Give him 90 pitches, he gets 8 strikeouts today. Chase Burns (DK: $11,500) Should be chalk and easy to play at this price with Schultz being locked in as our SP1. Drew Rasmussen (DK: $9700) This probably winds up being a close and well pitched game, but as we stated yesterday, you do not go against the Rays when they go up to Toronto.  It’s like the Lightning coming in to destroy the Leafs or … well, that’s all we got, so yeah, the Ras vs Gaus matchup is pretty good for both doing well, but lean on Rasmussen.     NATIONALS vs ROCKIES Coors should Coors tonight.  Do the process of no more than 4 players total, 2 from each side…. Happy Monday! They just couldn’t give us a full 15 game slate to kick off the new week and the Twins Lefties in Cleveland is the spot we are missing out on tonight….   WEATHER I declare that all games will play on this fine Monday.  Storms in Chicago and a few other spots, but ultimately mother nature shall let us be.   Jacob deGrom (DK: $10,000) Chicago’s more fragile offensively away from Comiskey.  We should see a strong outing from deGrom and push 9+ strikeouts from the veteran.  There’s always risk with him and the price honestly is inflated based off name, but I trust him more than anyone else on the field today. Ryan Weathers (DK: $7600) & Braxton Ashcraft (DK: $9200) Ashcraft is having the type of season that I can see him getting lit up after his all-star appearance because it throws off the rythym and he got a ton of praise while there.  But the Yankees are bad on offense so I don’t think he gets torched too bad.  Weathers is easily the better point per $ play George Kirby (DK: $9400) Seattle at home hasn’t fully applied to Kirby – but let the Reds come in and fix that.  While I’m still on them for the second half and being better, they’re fine to pick on here coming out of Coors Field and going into the pitcher friendly Seattle.   OTHER CONSIDERATIONS Hell no on Jose Soriano.  That ship is done and sailed. Michael Wacha can be good for 3-4 innings, that’s the max, then implosion happens. Not using Cease, I dont fuck with the Rays when they’re in need of a win and also when in Toronto.  They love it up there. This is for the 4PM afternoon/Main slate today and it has no PIT/CLE exposure on it because of the double header and DraftKings doesn’t wanna include the 7PM game as the game to use there.  We love Brandon Lowe today in both games.   WEATHER Looks kinda ugly today but the benefit of afternoon games helps for waiting things out. Rays at Red Sox:  Looks the worst here.  Do they try to PPD and play two tomorrow?  Not likely, I think they wait it out and play later tonight.   Max Meyer is the clear number one and almost the only option up top.  Some might look and think they can avoid him vs Milwaukee who is always really good at home, but I think you are had pressed to trust much else out there.  It’s one of three dome games, and the other two feature some big traps IMO. Spencer Arrighetti is one of those possible traps, but should be number two in the pecking order.  After that it’s a mix between Shane Drohan in a game stack with Meyer or trying to get lucky with one of Luzardo or Manaea since those hitters are definitely not too comfortable given the long layoff, then the early game on Thu and then no game yesterday. Is today the perfect Friday slate?  Almost.  Is it a TestiFriday slate where you crank some Testify around 2PM and start drinking? Does a Bison flip over an old Grandpa in Yellowstone? C’mon, what kinda question is that.  But, no, today is not the perfect Friday slate.  Despite having 15 games overall, 1 of which is in the afternoon and the other 14 are on the main slate, we are missing out on the Mets and Phillies who re-opened the second half last night with the Mets — as usual — winning the first game in Philly with their catcher hitting bombs.  But now they are off today.   They moved up their game last night because of ‘Air Quality’ concerns thanks to those dipshits in Canada (sorry Canadians) who have everything on fire once again. And they want us to give them a second MLB team again?  I think not!   SECOND HALF PREVIEW It’s like Opening Day all over again.  Hope is renewed for every team and I once again look at teams fondly for wanting to stack them.  Then, reality hits, and I remind myself that I should not be lured back in with teams like the Royals, Rangers, Blue Jays, Orioles and most of all, those damn Reds, who just year after year seem to be so tempting to be the darling and just don’t deliver. Well, guess what.  The Reds are one of my NL second half sleepers.  The Reds are going to leap the Nationals — who finally start to come down to earth.  They’ll pass the Diamondbacks and they’ll catch the Cardinals.  The real question in the NL is now between the Marlins, Reds, Pirates and Padres for the final Wild Card spot.  The Braves will make a big splash and hold on, the Phillies are there too and the Brewers are just too fundamentally good to choke off.   The Cubs?  The warning signs are there and if you want a bold bet, take the Reds at +2200 to make the playoffs with the Cubs falling out. We head into the All-Star break with a big Sunday slate and a ton of spots that look like they’ll go by pretty quickly as players go into vacation mode.  The younger lineups are a little more appealing to me today, or just teams who are coming in playing good baseball overall right now. Go kinda light today and enjoy the All-Star break. Or just go all in since you won’t be spending any DFS funds the next 4 days.   WEATHER All clear   ZACK WHEELER (DK: $11k) Big game on paper between Wheeler and Skubal in a series that we basically haven’t touched in DFS this weekend.  Wheeler of course is flipping the bird to MLB for not being selected as an all-star with the game in Philly in his final season and if this game were in Philly I think you would see a potential all time dominant outing.  But it’s in Detroit and so maybe he is going to slow down slightly.  Then again, the Tigers are very similar to his last two teams in the Reds & Pirates, who he absolutely dominated & his velocity is fine going into the break.  He should unload the arm today one more time. What a fantastic Friday slate we have. While we are not treated to an afternoon Wrigley game today, this is still about as perfect of a DFS slate as one could try to dream up heading into the All-Star Break. The Baseball card begins with a solid undercard on the Turbo slate that features Milwaukee’s lefties going into Pittsburgh in what should be a pitchers duel but I am not certain it will be.  Then there’s Philly going to Detriot — which is just weird — and then the Yankees at the Nationals for a probable Nationals series sweep unless the Yankees destroy the Nats pen. WEATHER Brewers at Cardinals:  Storm chances here.  Divisional game too, so buyer beware, but it’s good hitting spot.   So we are now in the spot where every pitcher going will be emptying the tank before the all-star break. Framber Valdez (DK: $7300): Finally we get to go against the Athletics who are on a miserable road trip after being home for almost a month & they’re playing like a team who wants to go back home or somewhere else for a long vacation.  They’re the perfect type of team for Framber to have one of his “Hey what would happen if Juan Valdez, Phil Mickelson and Greg Maddux had a kid” type games… You know, fat, lefty and 7 innings under 85 pitches with 0 ER.
