WEATHER Mariners at Cubs:  Alright, it’s about 9:51 as I write this and I am in Northern Virginia.  The Cubs game starts in 4 hours and I am trying to figure out how fast I can get to Chicago to watch this Mariners and Cubs game today.  An afternoon game in the Bleachers with 90+ degree temps and heavy winds out to dead center.  Forget the rest of the slate, I mean, why even bother? Basically every outdoor game is warm and has favorable winds.  Even Toronto could have the roof open today. GRANT HOLMES (DK: $9800, FD: $9200) … So we immediately go to the game down in South Beach for at least one pitcher and possibly a second.  I still dont think Holmes is that good but when he is bad he still manages to get the trust to go 5+ IP and work is way through it.  Avoid a few walks here and don’t give up a HR to Agustin Ramirez.  Simple formula for Holmes. JOSE BERRIOS (DK: $8300, FD: $9000) … Jays at home on Saturday afternoons.  He gets heavy run support against Civale & is coming off a down game, buy low here on Berrios although I say low and it’s hard not to see him being the second highest owned SP today. KUMAR ROCKER (DK: $6000, FD: $8200) … Every pitcher has that one or two bats which are obvious challenges.  For Rocker it’s Oneil Cruz, but after him I like my chances more than Mitch Keller dealing with Josh Smith and Evan Carter homers. SECONDARY OPTIONS Zach Eflin – Coming off a blow up against his former team down in Tampa, I really think he bounces back against the Yanks, but it is warm there obviously as well & I can understand if you are concerned with that.  He’s better than what he showed earlier this week. Eury Perez (DK: $5900) has to be on the radar.  The kid has enough talent with his breaking pitches to have a strikeout per inning, but getting 5 innings is about your ceiling. Hayden Birdsong … (DK: $8000, FD: $8300) — Two young guns going off in San Francisco.  I prefer Kershaw, but think Birdsong vs Boston has to be a good SP2 choice in what should be a 4-2 type game at most.  Difference here is Dobbins has to deal with Devers. WEATHER I expect every game to play.  There’s definitely a chance of storms in the Angels/Yankees and Rockies/Nationals but both should be fine to get played. We are being deprived of what could have been Paul Skenes vs Tarik Skubal.  With the re-scheduled game from last night they will both pitch today but Skenes is going in the nightcap and Skubal is going early.  Would have been fun to see those two go against each other.  The other double-header game will feature Cardinals (Fedde) against White Sox (Burke). TARIK SKUBAL  (DK: $12,000, FD: $10,700) It’s Skubal and a heaping pile of shit out there today.  The wind is blowing out to left, but these are the Pirates, so lets not get cute here and pair Skubal with some cheap bats on this day slate because there are some that I really love (you will vomit, trust me, just deal with it) JAMESON TAILLON  (DK: $8200) After some sanity has taken over, I will take a bite on Taillon.  The guy is just having that magical bounce back year … which, is weird, because by bounce back I mean to his high school days when he was considered a top prospect.  Wrigley day games always scare me, but the wind isn’t an issue today.  Among the SP2 choices, he feels the safest. SEAN BURKE  (DK: $6800) Let’s have some fun.  It’s Thursday Baseball.  Two slates.  Hot as hell and … well, it’s now technically a Holiday, so weird things happen.  You can eat up Erick Fedde against his former team or you can take the White Sox pitcher at home. Wait, where are you going?  Oh, I said White Sox.  Well, what if I told you the trend right now in Baseball is sweeps and the White Sox did win the first game of this series 12-2?  Okay, in all seriousness, the strikeout upside for Burke is better than Fedde & he pitches decent at home. WEATHER Brewers at Cubs – Rain/Storms ADD:  Twins at Reds – This is an ugly one.  Heavy storms in the area but they usually get games in here.  Check the wind right at lock, if it is still out heavy to left you could see it blow up … CHRIS SALE  (DK: $10.7k, FD: $10.8k) When Sale is on one of his strikeout streaks it’s hard to turn away from him.  Back to back double digit strikeout games puts him in line to keep the streak going as he has a history of stringing them together when locked in.  We do have storms in Atlanta to monitor, but if there’s a solid 2 hour window break then he’ll be fine to avoid that.  The Mets do a good job putting the ball in play vs LHP, but his talent is obviously better than the norm and I wouldn’t over analyze that. KRIS BUBIC  (DK: $9500, FD: $10.1k) Another lefty, this one coming off his one bad start this season, but now Bubic draws the Rangers who are not going to change their ways against LHP anytime soon.  His only downside is that if Sale is clear of weather issues you probably won’t be going 20k of your DK salary on these two pitchers combined, so this is FD only or pivot off Sale only. TAJ BRADLEY  (DK: $7400, FD: $8400) Odd enough that Tampa is one of the more comfortable weather spots tonight, but low 80’s in a night game is just that. OTHER PITCHING THOUGHTS Jacob Misiorowski ($8500) makes his second start tonight.  The flame thrower has weather issues and had command issues at HOME in his debut, so on the road in Wrigley isn’t a spot to jump on him yet. If you want to take a shot in the dark both Bailey Ober and Nick Lodolo have been shaky lately but are trusted enough to go 5+ IP when they aren’t walking the entire stadium.  But they are also in a dangerous HR spot, especially Lodolo.   YANKEES Any and all of them. There is a report that hot weather with tons of humidity is coming…  Shocking, as it’s also mid June and we have this thing called SUMMER.  But, all that aside, we really have what appears to be a nice random Tuesday where all of the sudden those of us claiming the balls are dead look dumb.  We’re not, they just turned off the humidors tonight.  Happy hunting finding a safe pitcher … or two.   SETH LUGO (DK: $7800, FD: $8700) Tonights Giolito in my mind, as he gets a favorable Texas lineup which has one concerning bat (Corey Seager) and then it’s likely very smooth sailing for Lugo today.  Enough time back on the mound after an IL stint for KC to turn to him to stop their bleeding. WALKER BUEHLER (DK: $7000, FD: $8000) Do we go back to the Mariners and picking on them again?  Why not..  All signs point to this night being a higher scoring one and the need for high end pitching just not really jumping out at me.  Cal Raleigh has finally come back down to earth for now, if that holds up, the Sox could pitch their way into another series win behind Buehler — who is back in our lives as a late night hammer at low ownership — where he always shined. BRANDON PFAADT (DK: $6800, FD: $7900) Everything about this game on the model is backwards for me.  I think Arizona is the far better play and Pfaadt is the pitcher who could shine out of nowhere.  It’s a really contrarian take yes, but he only really gets big strikeouts against RHH & Toronto’s more RH heavy again now while Varsho is still out.  Gimme Zona to win big north of the border tonight. OTHER PITCHING THOUGHTS While Cleveland is struggling and I thought they would hit in Seattle, they’re not someone I want to pick on with the walk-a-thon Robbie Ray after dark. TONIGHTS BEST PITCHER There is no ‘Ace’ I want to force upon you today.  Dylan Cease in the division is always too risky as teams wait him out and make him work & Clarke Schmidt against the Angels in Yankee Stadium just feels like a dangerous trap. Mick Abel (DK: $9000, FD: $8500) … Unlike SP vs Colorado, the sites still have the prices on pitchers in Miami priced correctly.  Abel is coming off a bad start after breaking onto the scene.  Tonight he should recover and be worth using. TONIGHTS CHALK PITCHER Jake Irvin (DK: $8100, FD: $8000) … SP vs Colorado outside of Coors.  That’s the chalk every night when it presents itself until further notice. TONIGHTS SLEEPER Lucas Giolito (DK: $7300, FD: $7400) … Sleeper in Seattle.  Lucas Giolito appears to be getting into form and is likely going to be trusted for 95+ pitches   Boston Red Sox While Logan Gilbert is back tonight, this first return off the IL is the best spot he could give up 2+ HR in, and after the Devers deal I think people may automatically overlook Boston Houston Astros This lineup really looks dead at the moment after their day of rest yesterday – but the park shift is tremendous and the one thing you can’t do vs Houston is roll out a LHP. With Ryan Gusto starting, we should be interested in the Athletics as well.  Great spot for Butler, Soderstrom and Kurtz ALSO LIKE Angels/Yankees … Bumping this one up over the Orioles/Rays.  Too many upside homer plays here. Happy Fathers Day!  I got my haircut this week and there was some woman on the TV talking about how all Dad’s want for Father’s Day is to spend time with their children.  She clearly had no idea that Yusei Kikuchi was pitching on Father’s Day.  What a horrible assessment of what Dads want. WEATHER All games play MACKENZIE GORE (DK: $10.3k, FD: $10.4k) The Marlins are projected to have a full RH lineup today & that walks right into a higher strikeout spot for Gore in a game where the ball is not likely going to travel far when it is hit.  He should be as safe as they come. ZACK WHEELER (DK: $11k, FD: $10.8k) I love Gore, I always have.  He’s fine today and is definitely the #1 if you like it safe.  But there’s this sneaky suspicion the man who comes out and throws 9 innings, 13 strikeouts, 0 ER and just breezes through in a 2-0 game is just up I-95 in Philadelphia.  It’s enough for me to consider going double Aces on a Sunday with some cheap value bats mixed around them.  If you have one lineup, get Gore/Wheeler and flip off the chalk SP2s.  If you have two lineups, make Wheeler the Ace on the second one for sure because this has more upside than any pitcher I’ve felt in a while. YUSEI KIKUCHI (DK: $7400, FD: $8500) No Mountcastle here so Kikuchi should have less fears about pitching vs the Orioles.  This would be two solid starts for him in one week though, so yeah there’s concern from me in that regard, however the birds have too many easy holes for him to get through today to have a horrible game.  At this price we’re likely hoping for a 6+ strikeout game and that should pay off ok. GRANT HOLMES (DK: $7800, FD: $8200) Dude just isnt that good either – but bad SP vs bad offense.  Something has to give here, right? OTHER PITCHING THOUGHTS MAX FRIED will get the Yankees a win today.  But Max Fried is not going to touch anywhere near the double digit strikeout mark that Gore can touch.
