Try to follow along with today’s schedule updates if you can as we have two MLB DFS slates on this fine Thursday with a double header included. The White Sox and Yankees are playing two today after yesterday’s PPD, although it’s still up in the air if they actually play either game today.  The first one is at 4PM and is not on any DFS slate, while the second one has been included on DraftKings Main 7pm slate tonight. Detroit and Philly decided ah fuck it, lets not play two, do we really wanna play anyways?  So they have one game and it’s tonight on the FanDuel main slate, but that game is NOT on the DraftKings main slate because FD locks at 6pm (the DET-PHI game) and DK locks at 7pm tonight. None of this matters for THIS article though, because this is the Early slate article and all I just did was make it so that I have to repeat myself tonight on the main slate article, sorry for wasting your time.   WEATHER Arizona at Washington – We have smoke here, it smells like ass in the air and so we’ll see if they pull some crap and PPD this one, I doubt it. Coors Field should see (yes, Coors is on this slate, sorry) rain at some point in the game, not enough to PPD it though.  Again, sorry….  Wait until you hear who is pitching.   TOP ARM(s) CLAYTON KERSHAW (DK: $10.4k) The Reds are your cheap bats on the slate, so thats kinda a counter argument but they’re also unlikely to tear up Kershaw like they have the other Dodger pitchers.  Elly is going to be just fine from the right side of the plate too but the rest of the team is what I would pick on as Clayton probably has a 7+ strikeout game himself.   SP2 CANDIDATES ALEX COBB (DK: $7500) The only other arm I truly like today when factoring in price and opponents.   OTHER PITCHING NOTES Yonny Chirinos (TB) — It was announced this morning that Chirinos will start for Tampa today — his first appearance since May 16th vs the Mets.  He hasn’t faced more than 23 batters in a game, but the Twins are also ICE cold right now.  He’s a viable SP2 instead of Cobb given his price, but that would be if you are […]

Ten games tonight.   WEATHER Chance of storms in game in Atlanta and change of rain/storms out in Colorado as well.  There will likely be bad haze/air quality once again in New York and also in Washington tonight.  Who the heck knows if they actually get all scared and try to PPD these games, they haven’t in the past to my knowledge when this happened out in Seattle a year or two ago. White Sox vs Yankees and Tigers vs Phillies officially PPD TOP ARM(s) CORBIN BURNES (DK: $10.2k, FD: $10k) Burnes is pitching well and the Orioles are more explosive against LHP, so his damage risk is minimal here and we should see a good strikeout performance to justify the five figure salary.   SP2 CANDIDATES LANCE LYNN (DK: $8700, FD: $8200) Weather/Air Quality risk of PPD for Lynn – but no Judge should make him popular and should also make him free of the risk of being pulled early.  This overall slate has a limited amount of big time strikeout potential plays, with Max Scherzer being the only one I could see having a big time game so Lynn going 6 innings (he will throw 100 pitches) and a weak Yankee lineup should justify him being alright. ZACH DAVIES (DK: $6200) I really want to scream at myself and say “WHY ARE YOU PICKING ON THE NATIONALS STILL”, but hey, here I am.  Call me crazy, but this sets up as that once every 6 starts where Davies is rolling through the first few innings without much issue.  Why?  A big deal is his pitch profiles and what the Nationals have and have not hit this season and they haven’t hit sinkers exceptionally well Favorite third pitcher – Jon Gray   OTHER PITCHING NOTES I don’t understand why Randy Vasquez is only $4,000 on DraftKings.  He has already started one game going 4 2/3 IP and really nobody should be $4k when we know they could go more than an inning.  Case in point, Ronel Blanco is $5200 for Houston.  Upside limited though.  Heck, Kutter Crawford is even $6800 and he wont throw more than 50 pitches. Twelve (12) game MAIN slate today, as we have seen the sites go back to 7:05 PM lock without the Turbo slate games.  So say farewell to Royals/Marlins, Tigers/Phillies and Twins/Rays.  Pretty good Turbo slate in my mind, I like all 3 of those games to go over as well. The Cincinnati Reds have promoted the #1 hitting prospect in Baseball, Elly De La Cruz to the big leagues.  He is a super athletic switch hitting infielder (SS for now) who projects to be the next big star in a line of similar explosive athletes like Fernando Tatis, Oneil Cruz, Ronald Acuna, etc…   He long like Oneil Cruz, has an explosive bat like Tatis and can run like Acuna.  So let’s hope that this doesn’t turn into a Willie Mays Hayes situation where he runs like one but hits like shit if you know what I mean.  He’s only $2,000 on DraftKings and I haven’t even bothered to look if he is on FanDuel yet, so I will assume that he won’t be there until the 4th of July.  The Reds should let him hit leadoff and you can definitely take him and load him in tonight if you want.  He’ll be a regular in this article.   WEATHER Everything will play tonight, a few scattered showers in some games and some wind as well, but really nothing to worry about adjusting your lineups around. There is also a massive amount of smoke in the atmosphere coming down from Canada, and while there could be massive amounts of Alek Manoah jokes I will pass on that for now.  It’s related to some wildfires or something and it will make for very hazy and bad air conditions in New York and Philadelphia tonight, as well as somewhat in DC but the air in DC always sucks so who can really tell.   TOP ARM(s) Logan Gilbert (DK: $9900, FD: $9800) Joe Musgrove (DK: $7800, FD: $8300) One tough start against the Yankees when they ambushed his four-seamer and got him rattled early does not mean we should pivot off him against a mediocre Padres lineup.  His opponent (Musgrove) is usually very good at home in friendly PETCO and also $2100 cheaper on DraftKings, so this does setup a nice SP gamestack option if you want to lock in on ~40+ DK points from your SP’s and not sweat anything early.  Both […]

Good news, we have both FanDuel and DraftKings included two 6:40 PM games on the MAIN slate tonight to bring the total up to seven games.   Bad news, we have both FanDuel and DraftKings including the Royals and Marlins on the MAIN slate tonight.   WEATHER No issues   TOP ARM(s) Aaron Nola (DK: $10.2k) Outside of Nola deciding he wants to pitch with his left hand or his head in the cloud tonight, there’s a low probability that he winds up struggling against the Tigers.  They’re back to whiffing a good amount vs RHP, they don’t hit stuff which breaks very well and Nick Maton doesn’t exactly get me excited in the “revenge” narrative department.   SP2 CANDIDATES Secondary choices tonight begin with Braxton Garrett (vs KC), Blake Snell (vs CHC) and the battle of JP Sears versus Johan Oviedo.  None of which are solid plays here. Blake Snell is the one you roster when you want to feel like you have a shot because he is the last pitcher going, pitches well at home and the Cubs are ready to get the heck out of San Diego after a wrap-around road trip (they go to Anaheim tomorrow).  But Chicago has some power vs a LHP, so he’s not free and clear of damage for $9700. Garrett to me is the risky chalk fade.  I suspect he is popular vs Kansas City, but lots of profile concerns against their lineup and someone who has had to rely on strikeouts to hit value due to low PC’s is not going to run away with the slate. JP Sears is someone I really like tonight.  Pittsburgh isn’t hitting for much power, especially at home, and Sears has not struggled with command.  He’s cheaper than Garrett, will strikeout fewer, but is for sure your contrarian pivot. And then we have Jim Abbott’s son, yes, that Jim Abbott, the one handed lefty who threw a no hitter once.  Seriously, ya’ll claim that Shohei Ohtani is some awesome pitcher, has he every thrown a no-hitter?  I didn’t think so, this guy did it with one hand. Welcome to the Sunday Edition of The Dongers Club, with one showdown game going off between the Cardinals and Pirates featuring the Porn Stache Miles Mikolas and Dick Mountain, live at 11:35 am, streaming live into your living rooms on Peacock. Then we have a ten game Main slate, followed by the most underrated slate in Daily Fantasy Sports, a three game 4PM Sunday afternoon slate which features the Italian, a Gallen and maybe some Marcus Stroman chalk. It all wraps up with an early dusk/late afternoon game in Chavez Ravine between Domingo German and Bobby Miller. Overall that 1-2 day heat wave has gone away everywhere.  All games should play though without any PPD risk.   TOP ARM(s) Sandy Alcantara (DK: $9000, FD: $9700) South Beach Sunday with Sandy, the hapless Athletics and one of his best spots of the season and certainly of late.  Look for a 30% strikeout rate against a lineup who doesn’t walk an excessive amount and has very little power.  7 innings, 7 strikeouts, 1 ER.  Lock and load Sandy… Nate Eovaldi (DK: $11k, FD: $10.8k) Eovaldi versus Bryce Miller is easily the best A vs B pitching match-up today.  I don’t wanna fuck with Texas’ lineup right now so Miller is OUT and Eovaldi at 11k on DraftKings has been producing like that but presents a scenario of deciding to pair him and the comfortable Alcantara together and manage the lineup construction after that.   SP2 CANDIDATES There are none today.  You are either pairing the two guys above together or moving down to the Sunday Sleeper gut call section and boy do I have some thoughts in that regard. On the Dashboard/Lineups page this 4PM slate is considered ‘Afternoon’ and the evening 5 game slate is considered the ‘Main’ slate. I will not have an article for the second late slate tonight, so some thoughts overall for it will be at the bottom of this article.  All total we have 8 games in this 4PM window and 5 late.   WEATHER STL at PIT … Chance of storms right around first pitch, game will play though, so worst case there is a slight delay before they begin. PHI at WSH … Hot, Hot, Hot. MIL at CIN … Hot, Hot, Hot.   TOP ARMS Eury Perez (DK: 8700) The young kid gets a nice comfortable home game with Oakland on tap.   His stuff is too good to worry about a limited ceiling on pitches thrown today.   SP2 CHOICES Cristian Javier (DK: $10.6k) Javier should be the top overall scoring SP, but his price ranks him as #1 compared to Perez who I think is very safe to use.  Overall that’s our DK combination.   Jose Berrios (DK: $9400) One spot where it is not excessively hot today is New York and the wind is also going to be blowing in, so the combination of a big park, an old lineup, mediocre weather and throw out that Berrios should get some early inning runs to give him the lead puts him in a great spot today.  His recent form is good despite 5 walks vs his former team last start out, so I expect that to come back to better form today and 6+ IP with 1K per inning is our goal.     BREWERS Yelich, Tellez, Contreras, Anderson, Taylor, Bernie the Brewer They’re all going yard.  The Graham Ashcraft experience is long and dead and if he breaks up the Milwaukee lock of the weekend stack then tip of the cap to the crafty Ass-man.
