The Dongers Club – May 5th

It is a ‘quiet’ Thursday night and our opponents are probably bummed that they did not have Cedric Mullins, Mookie Betts and 100% Milwaukee last night so they are once again sitting and lying in perfect position to be Ambushed today on a slate which is void of the easy button pitching of the first month of the season. WEATHER All six games will play. [spacer height=”20px”] <Logan Webb was wrote about in this space.  In fact, It was a hell of a write up if I do say so myself.  The kind that would most definitely win me an award for the most thorough breakdown without actually saying a damn thing wrote on a day when Americans celebrate someone elses Holiday for their own…  So we move on, away from Logan Webb as our no doubt about it number 1 tonight and we try to find a new SP2 since the guy below this becomes the SP1….> SHANE McCLANAHAN We will see where the ownership comes in when the slate locks and honestly I don’t care about sweating MLB ownership that much, but getting Sugar Shane at lower ownership than Robbie Ray will be glorious and our perfect leverage tonight.  His path through Winker-Suarez-Crawford tonight is going to be the key and our projections have him cruising through them.  It’s a little pricey for Shane coming off an 11K outing but results > value and he will give us strong results. <… Well shit….  We have reached that point where I have to now find another SP that I want to use on my main lineup aaaaaand …?> JESUS LUZARDO Well, the saying Jesus take the wheel definitely feels appropriate here.  Luzardo will fill in as my SP2 although he is equal to my third SP option today who is the darkhorse candidate in my mind (Skubal).  For Luzardo the results this season have been very strong as he is pitching with a ton more confidence and has been virtually unhitable by LHB.  He should do well against Machado and on a slate where I think the chalk SP will get beat up he becomes someone that can be good enough. TARIK SKUBAL When identifying cheap pitchers we focus on buying low on talent or attacking bad offenses.  In this case I am opting for buying low on talent in Skubal. The Dongers Club – May 4th

WEATHER Storms in three spots Twins at Orioles … Should play Angels at Red Sox … Could be a PPD risk Nationals at Rockies … It will be chilly with the wind blowing in here as well. [spacer height=”20px”] LUCAS GIOLITO Giolito went 6 strong facing 24 batters last weekend so we’re good to go with him facing a Cubs team which started off well but has really cooled off.  They’re hitting sub .200 over their last 10 days and it will be pitching favorable conditions tonight in Wrigley. FREDDY PERALTA At some point the Reds will get hot and sustain it for a whole 9 innings but it aint gonna come vs Freddy P.  Gas, gas and more gas from Peralta tonight. [spacer height=”20px”] AUSTIN GOMBER This is another night where I am hard set on two guys at the top but there are 3-4 considerable options after them.  Austin Gomber showed flsahes a year ago and struggled out the gate before two good road outings where he struck out 14, and gave up 2 ER through 12 innings.  Even though he is back at home in Coors Field I believe he will keep that recent strong form going and his best pitch right now is his Slider which most Nationals are very bad against.  Gomber has GPP winning upside when you consider the leverage he also brings against cheap Nationals. Other contrarian arms – Garrett Whitlock, Kyle Hendricks [spacer height=”20px”] GIANTS/DODGERS Watching Mookies AB lately and I just get the sense that his slow start is going to come to a close in a flash with a big game and the environment in L.A. is the warmest of any on the slate tonight in the second marquee game of the night. Mookie Betts Trea Turner Justin Turner BREWERS Vlad Gutierrez is at best a 4th starter and he cannot strike anyone out and has not looked very good this season.  It’s only a matter of time until the Reds send him down to go do something else with his life at AAA and a Milwaukee 5 run start to this game is probably not going to help matters. Kolten Wong Willy Adames Christian Yelich Rowdy Tellez ORIOLES This one is for our late dear friend Carmen Nepa III.  No, he wasn’t an Orioles fan but boy did he sweat whenever Dylan Bundy was on a slate wondering if I […]

NHL Playoff Slapshot – May 4th

GAME THOUGHTS TAMPA vs TORONTO Tampa just got absolutely destroyed and should come out with a better approach tonight as I still think they win this series, but the clock could be ticking on the back to back Champions.  Look for a close game with the Lightning getting a goal from the Cirelli-Killorn-Point line and […]

PGA Dew Sweeper: Wells Fargo

Wells Fargo Championship Last week was pretty good!  I looked back and every player recommended above $7,000 made the cut.  We also had the winner and a low-priced 2nd place finish in the writeup with Rahmbo and Brandon Wu.  Last weeks field was a homonym – weak! Look it up!  I can’t explain my dad-joke […]

The Dongers Club – May 4th Early

With two games being rained out yesterday I was worried we would have a jumbled DFS slate today between FanDuel and DraftKings.  Much to our satisfaction we have site synchronicity with 6 game early slates, including the Pirates-Tigers first game of their doubleheader today from Detroit. Except, we don’t have site synchonricity. Yes, you will see Seattle vs Houston listed on FanDuel and 6 games listed.  In fact, they sent an API feed out to some with pricing for players in that game but it’s not listed on the Early Slate contests, so you really cant pick them.  Unless of course they randomly decide to add them just an hour or two before lock. What a bunch of idiots. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER But of course as expected this week we have some rain concerns once again today.  The Cardinals and Royals are playing for the final meeting this year and I really think they will manage to work to get this game in as they moved it up to 1:10 PM EST already so I expect they get it done and over with quickly.  Unfortunately Kris Bubic is pitching so that might not go so fast. The other light rain spot is the Braves and Mets and obviously those teams will meet again later in the year in New York and are coming off a double-header yesterday.  I don’t think the rain will be strong enough to push this one out but I also dont think anyone will give two craps about playing in it. All in all, I expect that all 6 games play. PROBABLE PITCHERS Here are the expected starters in the double header games on the early slate.  These sometimes change last minute with the double header games so I wanted you to know who I anticipate is pitching in those games as I did my article. Game 1 Starters (On this slate): Clevinger (SD) vs Plesac (CLE) Peters (PIT) vs Pineda (DET) Game 2 Starters (Not on this slate): Gore (SD) vs Quantrill (CLE) Quintana (PIT) vs Faedo (DET) Sorry….  You won’t be able to add Alex Faedo to the list of pitchers who you stacked against and got 4 zero’s, at least not today…. [spacer height=”20px”] JUSTIN VERLANDER 70-80% ownership likely for Verlander as the Mariners decided that they would no longer hit the Baseballs once we started using them.  He dominated them earlier this […]

The Dongers Club – May 3rd

Here is a sign of the times in Major League Baseball. Minnesota at Baltimore, with an over/under of 7 flat.  You read that correctly friends and no the pitching match-up is not Johan Santana vs Mike Mussina. Simply put, it is what it is at this point. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER Update, the Pirates and Tigers has already been PPD but I refuse to delete what I wrote below…. Two inter-league games which are part of 2-game series which have low risk tonight.  Neither one should have major PPD concerns but both do have return series later in the year where the home team tonight visits the road team to finish up their ‘rivalry’ series. Who decided the Pirates and Tigers is a rivalry?  Was this like the nerdy pimple faced kid who drools and the shy red-head girl at the middle school dance who watched Cleveland/Cincinnati pair-up and then Chicago/Chicago pair-up and Toronto decide for Atlanta (over Pittsburgh) and Milwaukee choose Minnesota leaving these two left staring at each other only to later become the best damn inter-league series every single season? Yes, these are the things which keep me up late at night.  Anyways, we have Pirates-Tigers tonight, rejoice! Oh, the other inter-league game with light rain is White Sox-Cubs. [spacer height=”20px”] JOE RYAN Both pitchers in this game have been going very strong to start the season, but the main difference here is obviously that Bruce Z has to deal with Buxton/Correa and Joe Ryan – who is just dealing right now – has to deal with A Mancini/Mountcastle/Odor heart of the order which he should strike out in a row. BRANDON WOODRUFF The Reds are horrible.  Just fucking terrible.  We can ignore Joey Votto being a Miller Park beast and just calmly take Woodruff at home vs the worst offense in Baseball.  Cincinnati has had something like 2 games this year where they have more than 2 batters get 10+ DraftKings points. Woodruff is coming off a short 4 inning (21 BF) outing but he still struck out 6 and has a near 30% Called-Strike Whiff rate.  A SP game stack with Mahle is of interest here too. JULIO URIAS A season ago we would have not touched a LHP vs the Giants and in this series we definitely wouldn’t have taken the bait of the Dodgers.  But right now this Giants offense is dead to me […]

The Dongers Club – May 2nd

Monday, May 2nd Just six games on the MAIN slate(s) today, which will begin at 6:40 PM down in South Beach with the visiting Diamondbacks taking on the Marlins.  All total there are three games with totals below 7 tonight, a clear sign that Vegas is done buying into the MLB theory that games are going to suddenly start going over.  Buyer beware though, I don’t trust the MLB to not be working hand in hand with Vegas, but maybe that’s just the conspiracy hat going off in me. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER Three domes and games in Baltimore, New York and Oakland means the only thing we care about is RAIN and unlike the rest of this week there is none tonight thankfully. We could see both domes in Miami and Houston open though. [spacer height=”20px”] MAX FRIED It is time for Fried Day in the Dongers Club.  I/We missed out on his big start in LA two starts ago but I will be all in on Fried against the Mets who are coming off a big Sunday Night Baseball win and are a team which Fried has really pitched well against.  It always seems to take Fried a few starts to get into the season and now he is rolling along.  Expect 6-7 strong innings with limited damage (if any) and 6+ strikeouts on his way to a win. Fried is the anchor SP today. PABLO LOPEZ The Marlins vs Diamondbacks game will draw lots of SP ownership and for good reasons.  Pablo Lopez has been dominant to start the season and is just a damn good pitcher against both sides of the plate. Unfortunately, the Diamondbacks are not the team that you always want to pick on given how many pitches they take and how well they’re putting the ball in play and thus I am tempered one xpecting Lopez to throw up a dominant outing, but he is much preferred over Gallen. ZAC GALLEN Yes, it is a “revenge” narrative if you want to go down that route for ole four eyes and he is extremely good against RH bats which is the core that this Marlins lineup provides.  I just think we can easily find the right CORE hitters to pair with Lopez and Fried and that combination gives us lower ownership (due to Gallen’s price) and the same upside that Gallen has — if not […]
