Sunday Dongers Club – June 26th

Sunday MLB DFS was once my favorite day of the week but that feels like it has long since faded away.  I am not sure the exact reason here as I’m not doing anything really different on Sundays in my mind, but maybe then that’s the problem. You need to be a little unconventional at times in MLB DFS and so do not be afraid to do that on a Sunday if you need to mix up the mojo.  Stop worrying about what “has happened” when deciding on things and worry about what you want to happen in spots. No this just doesn’t mean you blindly go out and pick things, but be smart about where games are in the series and ask yourself “Is that going to keep happening?”. The great news today is that we have Site Synchronicity as both FanDuel and DraftKings roll out a 9 game MAIN slate. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER Some light rain in Cleveland for the Red Sox and Guardians, game should play though as is the case for all other 8 games. Gusty winds in Target Field but not 80+ degree temps.  Winds are out to, Right Kepler, err Center.. [spacer height=”20px”] BRADY SINGER I honestly have more confidence today in Singer to reach his potential than anyone else.   This is a much lower dew point game with the wind blowing in today in Kauffman Stadium so there’s very limited HR risk against Oakland in those conditions and I firmly believe the Royals win a quiet 4-1 game where they don’t make stupid base running decisions or poor outfield defense plays. Happy Singer day. DYLAN CEASE Mancini, Santander, Mountcastle, Adley, Odor and Mateo.  Cease will see each of them twice and he’ll strike them out a combined 8 times.  I am absolutely DONE with the fucking White Sox from a betting standpoint and I’m extremely close in a DFS perspective as well. But for pitching purposes, Cease to me can and should beat out Shane McClanahan today. [spacer height=”20px”] Sunday (Deep) Sleepers ROANSY CONTRERAS We might as well call him Roarnsy Contrarian because that’s what he is as our top Sunday Sleeper pick of the day.   Is the over/under on this game seriously 6?  You guys do realize that Shane McClanahan is going to get beat up very soon?  Like, really soon.  And even with Wander Franco coming back Roansy’s devastating slider will […]

The Dongers Club – June 25th

Six game Saturday night slate with Mike Trout in a home game against the Mariners, which I am sure will end well for the Mariners, right?  What could possibly go wrong for them. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER No issues. Reds at Giants – This is an early start in SF (4pm local) and its very cool out there. [spacer height=”20px”] LOGAN WEBB The Reds got a win last night (we cashed it) and tonight we cash the Giants off the arm of Logan Webb.  Webb is sure to be the highest owned pitcher on both sites and there’s no reason for me to bother fading him on DraftKings since you gotta pick two. After a rough stretch Webb has gone back to back 7 inning starts with 16 total strike outs and is always good for 100+ pitches. PATRICK SANDOVAL The Mariners haven’t been white hot of late and I believe we get another Sandoval outing which is good against Seattle.  He had  a good game despite 14 line drives vs them on June 18th going 6 strong and at home should match that tonight. The other SP in this game is probably going to look tempting for strikeouts but I prefer Sandoval. [spacer height=”20px”] Also expect to pitch decent but will not use Logan Gilbert, Chris Archer [spacer height=”20px”] DIAMONDBACKS Marte, Rojas, Walker, Peralta, Smith Hey cool, another slate with Alex Faedo and another chance for him to burn me.  We’re starting to see the corner turn though as he has given up 11 ER over his last two starts and a lot of that is due to falling behind in counts.  Arizona is a good team at being patient and so the 4-5-6 part of this lineup could have a HUGE RBI night. TWINS Garlick, Kepler, Correa Max Kepler is a must play for me today.  Everything from Senzatella that he see’s should get hit hard and the return of Kyle Garlick chalk should be in play here too.  Great value in the middle of the lineup [spacer height=”20px”] Today’s BOOST+ Players Very light list tonight, which tells me that everyone should do what you expect them to do normally. Riley Greene, CJ Abrams, Trayce Thompson [spacer height=”20px”] CATCHER Gary Sanchez Tucker Barnhardt Will Smith [spacer height=”20px”] FIRST BASE Tonight is the day that Freeman homers in Atlanta and yes, it comes off Fried on a 2-1 sinker. Freddie […]

The Dongers Club – June 25th (Early)

Two MLB articles today as we cover a good afternoon set of games and then the main slate in the 7pm window later on today.  Look for that second article around 4 PM EST at the latest. The early slate today is made up of eight (8) games on DraftKings while FanDuel is back to their splitting things up with a 1PM slate and then the 4PM slate.  Good luck navigating the sea’s on Fanduel with their Lobby on a Saturday as usual. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER Looks like no issues with any weather although the roof in Milwaukee should be closed due to potential rain. Roof should also be closed in Texas and Miami [spacer height=”20px”] CORBIN BURNES You know that meme where the dude is offering you a trade that seems unfair to his favor?  Well, how about I give you the field and I receive Corbin Burnes with his 12 strike out game.  Burnes has gone 19, 26 and 37 over his last three games. We jumped on that 26 and had slight consideration for the 37 but now against the Blue Jays I would project him to match it again as he had 10 strikeouts with a 35% called strike whiff rate and this is an even better match-up being that they are a RH heavy lineup. LANCE LYNN – DK Another Right on Right scenario as Lance Lynn is also building up to a good start today making his third outing on the season and coming off a 28.3 CSW rate game. The wind in Chicago will be a non factor on the South Side and my god the White Sox just have to win a game don’t they?  I think they do it behind a 7 inning outing from Lynn who is under-priced still due to his late start on the season. J.T. BRUBAKER – DK/FD This is a tip of the cap to the model which is banking on Wander Franco being out for one more day and the Rays having the highest DCPA strikeout rate on the board.  Brubaker generally isn’t going to produce a ton of whiffs so we are also banking on the Rays lineup just remaining bad against Sinkers which he throws 37% of the time. Only Ji-Man Choi figures to do any damage off Brubaker. [spacer height=”20px”] CARDINALS Edman, Donovan, Gorman, Carlson Adrian Sampson has not had much luck […]

The Dongers Club – June 24th

We are rolling into the weekend with a 14 game Friday Main slate today, which excludes just one game and no it’s not the Cubs at home in Wrigley (it’s Mets at Marlins, you can sleep easy knowing you missed out on this one even though the Mets are gonna whoop the Marlins). [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER No rain issues and lots of heat. Roof status in Arizona is TBD [spacer height=”20px”] So when I first glanced at the names going tonight I said wow that’s a ton of good names out there.  Verlander, Severino, Nola, Gore, Manoah, Kopech, Anderson, Urias.  Plenty of guys we are generally considering. And then I looked closer. And I kept looking… And … Yeah, I don’t like the majority of them. [spacer height=”20px”] MERRILL KELLY Beyond fears of the roof being open I cannot find anything wrong with Kelly tonight.  To the point where I am fine with justifying him as an SP1 today as well.  Detroit has a couple young kids in Greene and Torkelson who we think at some point could get going together but neither has shown anything yet to warrant that and Grossman + Miggy both look horrible vs Kelly in this match-up. Plus if you think Javy Baez is hot because he tore up the Red Sox and think he’ll fly across the country into Arizona and wasn’t up all night partying with the locals out there in Phoenix on his way to 0-4 with 3 strikeouts then I don’t know what to tell you.  All signs a go for Kelly so long as he can get past Victor Reyes tonight. AARON NOLA Nola in a road day game is trouble, but Nola in PETCO at night is just fine.  Okay class, what have I said over and over this season about the Padres??  Anyone?  Yes, you in the back with the beer in your hand. Yes, that is correct, they don’t hit the ball down in the zone.  And what do we have here with Aaron Nola?  Someone who lives down in the zone. MACKENZIE GORE So I think we have established who Gore is going to struggle with in his career and it would be the Colorado Rockies of all teams.  They saw him his last two starts and managed to get to the rookie SP – which we kind of expected would happen at some point.  But […]

The Dongers Club – June 23rd (Night)

There are three games on this Thursday evening and I said there would not be an article but I do have quick thoughts on each of them. Astros at Yankees Framber Valdez is the top pitcher for me tonight.  He has pitched well away from home and the Yanks top guys are not good sinker ball hitters.  Look for a really good game in Yankee Stadium with lots of grounders from Framber Valdez in this game. The Houston bats do make a ton of sense and with the short porch in right I like Michael Brantley to hit a cheapie homer tonight. DFS:   Frambler, Brantley, Alvarez BET:  Astros ML, Valdez over 5.5 K [spacer height=”20px”] Orioles at White Sox This should be the game where all the offense comes from and the White Sox lineup with Tim Anderson back in is not only good DFS chalk but where you should just ride (and a good reason to maybe go light in DFS).   Don’t sleep on the Orioles though as the White Sox pen is completely used up after that long series with the Blue Jays.  Wouldn’t shock me to see Baltimore pull this one out late the more I look at it. DFS:  Anderson, Abreu, Santander, Odor BET:  Over, Anderson Over 1.5 total bases. [spacer height=”20px”] Phillies at Padres Like Valdez, Ranger Suarez is good away from home and he has a really good match-up against the weak Padres lineup who may have Manny Machado back but on a gimply ankle.  The strikeouts for Suarez should be low but I think he has a good long clean game here too. I like the Phillies and Kyle Schwarber with a lead off homer DFS:  Suarez/Musgrove/Schwarber BET:  Phillies ML [spacer height=”20px”] Back at it tomorrow for a full Friday slate!

The Dongers Club – June 23rd

Outside of Paul Blackburn I do not think I could have wrote a much better article last night and yet it was still a tough slate to balance things out simply due to the way ownership played out. This is why I really don’t care much about who is owned in MLB DFS because if you sat there and said “well I gotta be different from the chalk”, you got your ass kicked.  If you played the best plays, you might have had a chance depending upon how well you balanced things out or which contests you played. As I have said before, there are many ways to use the information here to profit in life if you do more than just DFS with prop bets and sports betting and if those mother effing Twins had not choked their game it would have another big betting night for me. In DFS we need to be lucky sometimes with the way the chips fall, and this is why it’s important to not just play randomly when you see someone win big and think they can give you a lottery ticket.  Grind it out and you’ll do fine.  It’s late June for crying out loud and we’ve been doing this all season and will continue to do it, all season. This is the only article for today because it’s really the only legit slate today.  There are three games tonight which we can cover in Discord later. For some reason, it is FanDuel who included the Mariners and Athletics and not DraftKings, which is very odd. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER All games play, we have warm temps and some wind blowing out in Target Field with 88 degree temps there and high Dew Point.  Also high dew point in Cincinnati. [spacer height=”20px”] ROBBIE RAY (FD) After going on and on about not caring about ownership in DFS I start off by saying this – Expect Ray to be very chalky on FanDuel (but he is not available for use on DraftKings).  This should be a good pitching battle between Ray and Montas with Ray coming off two of his better starts of the season and now facing the lowly Athletics. [spacer height=”20px”] On DraftKings Today … You have Clayton Kershaw, Kyle Wright and Hunter Greene who are at the top of the salary pool of which Kershaw to me is still on the […]

The Dongers Club – June 22nd

Only nine games have graced us on this Wednesday mid week MLB DFS slate, which is just fine although we have lots of one off guys who are resting tonight.  Devers, Riley, Adames to name a few as of now. [spacer height=”20px”] WEATHER Nationals at Orioles – This has high PPD risk associated with it.  Storms could be ugly and bring a ton of rain plus they can easily make this one up later in the year. Cubs at Pirates – Storms also possible although unlikely to disrupt the game. Giants & Braves – Once again a high Dew Point, warm temps, humid, etc. Good amount of warmth everywhere and roof likely open in Milwaukee. [spacer height=”20px”] SHOHEI OHTANI Some will say that the Royals do not strike out a ton and they are “hot”.  Last I checked they are still the Royals and Ohtani is the type of guy who can get 8-10 strikeouts against them.  He pitches well at home and is going to carve up KC. PAUL BLACKBURN I think Blackburn … no, I know Blackburn is the better pitcher in this game but I can assure you somewhere there is someone touting George Kirby.  Kirby has yet to demonstrate two things.  One, he doesn’t have a third pitch that is good enough (bad Change Up) and two his only hope is being able to command his Fastball.  Two things that are red flags for a chalky value pitcher in my mind. So we go over to the better guy in Blackburn who’s got an extremely good breaking ball and Seattle’s been one of the highest K% teams vs curves.  He is close to Ohtani in terms pure #1 SP’s tonight. DANIEL LYNCH Right back to the Lefties against Angels as Lynch is the highest rated DCPA strikeout pitcher on the slate.  Unfortunately when he misses down tonight Trout will get back on the HR sheet, but otherwise this is a 6 inning outing from Lynch with 8 strikeout potential.  He’s tonights version of RIch Hill where I’ll be playing the K prop even if I wind up not having him as a main lineup pitcher tonight. [spacer height=”20px”] Other guys I don’t mind… High Upside, High Risk: Carlos Rodon – Atlanta is a HIGH strikeout team, he’s just gotta avoid the long innings.  The Braves are resting Riley tonight which was a big bat I liked […]

PGA Dew Sweeper: Travelers Championship

TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP Major #3 is now behind us and, although I only really got to watch the play on Sunday after a 16-hour drive from Maine due to unreal traffic in Massachusetts, it didn’t shock me that two of the picks were right at the top.  Congrats to Renner on hitting the Fitzpatrick (+2500) bet!  […]
