Overview

After an exciting Craftsman Truck Series Race last night, the XFINITY cars will hit the track at Daytona for 120 laps spanning 300 miles on the 2.5-mile tri-oval that is heavily banked. The asphalt track banks 31 degrees in the turns and 18 degrees in the tri-oval and if you’ve ever had the pleasure of walking on the track you’d know that it is quite a climb up from the infield to the wall surrounding the track.

Strategy

The general strategy for these superspeedways is to find drivers that are starting toward the back in hope that they avoid the inevitable big wreck or wrecks. As we saw in last night’s truck race, there was a massive wreck at the end causing the race to go into overtime. The strategy remains the same, look for drivers that can bring you place differential points, and from an upside standpoint look for drivers that could sneak a win out of the chaos that is bound to ensue. Most comparable tracks: Talladega Superspeedway (only real difference is how much wider it is than Daytona)

Top Drivers

Justin Haley ($10,300)

Haley will pilot the number 10 Kaulig Racing car and is one of the better Superspeedway racers in the field. Haley has won twice in the XFINITY Series at Daytona including victories in two of his last four races here. Prior to those victories he had posted a second place finish and a sixth place run proving that Haley can navigate his way around a Superspeedway and stay out of trouble in most cases.

Jeremy Clements ($7,500)

An affordable option likely starting toward the middle – back of the field is Clements who has a win and three top 10’s in his career at Daytona. Worth noting here for the driver of the small family owned race team is that Clements has only failed to finish six times in 25 races at Daytona suggesting that he’s seasoned and has a knack for staying out of trouble. Ownership will depend on qualifying but consider Clements a “safe” and steady option regardless of where he starts.

Brandon Jones ($9,300)

Jones will drive you nuts at times considering how much talent he has, how good his car usually is, and where he finds himself running for the majority of races. He’s been known to make simple, boneheaded mistakes that could ruin his day in a flash. With that being said, in 14 trips to Daytona he has four top 10’s and two top five’s while wrecking out just twice.
